Flying around offline shooting drones, on occasion after removing the R. wing of the pony, and then destroying it, you get the little "boom" graphic, and then the L. wing drops! and it starts rolling over to the left as it dives in to the ground.
This only happens occasionally, but I've seen it more than once. I don't see how that could happen in r/l, :headscratch: but I may be  (blind) though I'm open for an education about it.
I do like these graphics btw, much better than the old poof. :aok
Best.

The drones also fly with no wings. It's just something to shoot at, don't sweat it.

Yeah, I realize that. I've been around since AH I.
I just wanted to make sure that if the "crash" subroutine was based on aerodynamic characteristics of a shot up plane, then there might be something HT would want to look into.
Otherwise, it doesn't matter to me, and the new crash graphics are a lot better than the old poof. :aok

I would guess the offline drone"crash routine" is based on the new "pilot-kill" animation graphic. Where the plane used to merely explode when the pilot was killed, it now gives a small boom and spirals to it's death.
FWIW, offline drones will continue to fly normally until the pilot is killed. One wing missing, on fire, they continue to circle. Give you more target practice time.

The death spirals are pre-recorded animations, so to speak. They have no actual flight value and the player's craft is "gone" (he's back in the tower as this plays out). They are only eye candy, and not really related to the damage you dealt before killing the pilot.

whnat krusty said, theyre just shrapnelto avoid ramming.

I noticed the same (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,284171.msg3595554.html).

It's actually two different things, what the OP described was explained by Krusty. Hitting the pilot triggers a preset animation one that is not necessarily following the actual FM of the aircraft and any other damage it may have sustained in the process. It's just some eye candy for the victor.
What you were describing in your post isn't actually a bug, it's just a misunderstanding of how the damage model and the graphics model currently work in game. Visually you see the flap is gone/shot-off but that's not what's actually happening as far as the flight model is concerned. The flap is damaged but not "gone" it's stuck in whatever position it was in when the damage was inflicted. If you match the other flap to the damaged one the roll you described will stop. The plane is rolling because one wing is generating more lift than the other.

D'oh... got my posts mixed in my reply.
Sorry. :)
