Wow! I always thought Me 163 was toejame but actually it would be quite nice to have it in AH!
The fact that it has actually a throttleable rocket engine makes it quite much more usable than I previously thought.
You could climb to 30 kft in 2 minutes (plus short time to get in best climb speed of 400 mph...) and then you would have 2 1/2 minutes of fuel left, When you consider this thing could glide in shallow dive 400 mph, you wouldnt need that much fuel.
Bomber pilots would not be too happy but Me 163 would be expensive to fly and hard to use effectively. Try hitting evading bomber in 400 mph, 70 degree climb!

I don't think shooting down Me163's (while surviving yourself) would prove too difficult if you are gunning in a bomber since in order to actually shoot down any bombers the 163 has to get in close and I'm not willing to bet that that thing was able to take any hits from HMGs at all let alone cannons (2 part rocket fuel + AP ammo = *bang* (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)). Escort fighters would have to put up a pretty good show to catch and shoot down one, though.

It would certainly give the 10k milkrunnin' Lancs something to think about.
I can see additional targets on airbases and map as well... A rocket fuel distillery and rocket fuel tanks. But its not to likely that such facilities were ever constructed in plain view on an airfield. We would also need a revision to the current ditch criteria for the use of an Me 163. Landing on a hard surface runway with a landing skid was not a good way to assure you'd live to fly again. Grass field landings were the norm. Right now any grass landing would be a ditch.

Actually, that brings up an interesting possability.
Suppose the 163 was a reasonably inexpensive perk....
You KNOW you'd lose them when you fly the plane; the sole purpose would be to intercept those blasted high-alt buff raids. This, a couple of 163's could do quite well.
OTOH, since there is a sure thing you'd lose those perkpoints, people wouldn't exactly want to flood the arena with 163's, instead using them on certain occasions, like stopping HQ raids.

I was absolutely thrilled to read that Me163 article. Really great information and a whole new perspective.
They mentioned R.H. Goddard's work at Rosewell NM. USA in 1926 and I believe his 200 patents on liquid fueled multistaged rockets paved the way to the Me163 amoung others. A tribute to a man who died in 1945 before being given any recognition.
From the first time I saw the Me163 zoom by in Chuck Yeagers 'Air Combat' Sim, I have alway's expected someone would add this unique plane to the sim community and have found it nowhere.
