Title: Some explosion sounds missing

I am attempting to get into Aces High again. I downloaded the most recent edition of the game, and so far everything is working OK, with one minor exception. When I practice offline, there is no explosion when I kill another aircraft. All other explosions are working, as are all other sounds.

Are enemy aircraft supposed to die silently? (I have several versions of the explosions 1, 2, 3 and 4 in my sounds directory, but the one for the aircraft does not work.) Any suggestions?

Or are the buggers supposed to die without a whimper?

Edit" I am still using Windows XP Pro on an AMD 64 machine.

Hmmm I guess not. I used the default sounds and still no explosion of enemy planes when they blow up. I love the effect of the plane falling out of the sky after being killed, but eliminating the explosion sound is too bad.

Nope. There are no explosion sounds when I blow a plane up. It's the only sound that is missing.
