Title: Avatar 2
Post by: stealth on April 24, 2010, 06:58:51 PM
There's a Avatar 2 coming out in probably 2011. They announced that there gonna make another a couple days ago. This new film is going to be based on the oceans of Pandora.  comingsoon.net (http://comingsoon.net)

Pochahantas in Space, part 2.  That seems like a fun idea.

With the amount of money they made on the first one, a sequel was a sure thing.  Cha-ching.

Maybe I'll inadvertently stumble onto the set and charge them $30,000 for the stunt.

That's dumb. They should just leave it as a one time thing. Being the most popular movie since Titanic, I fear they may ruin the reputation of Avatar with a sucky sequel.

I don't see it being anywhere near as big as the first one was. The only thing that made it such a big hit was the new 3D technology. The plot was not very good.

Now with all the movie companies jumping on the 3D band wagon, the 3D imagery won't be as big a deal. I also doubt the plot will be any better.

Wow, thank god someone was thinking something similar. After walking out of the theater i thought to myself, "cowboys 'n' indians in space".

That's basically the story,it's having a cowboy to go to the Indians then the Cowboy wants to be one so he goes on there side.

This movie.... A reputation?! If it weren't for all the 3-D junk and CGI, this "movie" would have been rated R for "Ridiculous."

I thought it was a wonderfull movie, I enjoyed the whole 3 hours of it. That said, I agree that a sequel is a bad idea.

I liked this movie, on the artistic/mood side. Story wise, its something the 2nd must excel at, otherwise, its going to be a flop (without any fan base).

Ok so the first one is Pocahontas meets Dances with Wolves at Little Big Horn...wonder if the second one is going to be Black Beard and Eric the Red meets the British whalers?

There was a lot of underlying sci fi stuff that was quite interesting and could be expanded on though. The graphics were outstanding, a graphic artists wet dream.

"Cameron said his inspiration was "every single science fiction book I read as a kid", and that he was particularly striving to update the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs's John Carter series. The director has acknowledged that Avatar shares themes with the films At Play in the Fields of the Lord, The Emerald Forest, and Princess Mononoke, which feature clashes between cultures and civilizations, and with Dances With Wolves, where a battered soldier finds himself drawn to the culture he was initially fighting against."

No it isn't the most original story, but it is told in an exceptionally effective and spectacular way. Cameron did Aliens and Terminator 2; I'm quite confident in his ability to make decent sequels.

Ahhh I was wondering about the many 6 legged creatures and the costumes reminded me the stuff in Princess of Mars.

IF they do make a sequel, hopefully they dont rush it out just to make quick money.

Cameron is a perfectionist. He said in an interview that even if he started on the sequel right now it would be three years before it was finished. Avatar means more to Cameron than just money. Money stopped being a problem for him a long time ago.

O of course Cameron has no problem with money.....but the studio it comes from may want to push it

I don't think they have the rights without Cameron's approval. After Terminator Cameron has been very strict on what rights he will give to the studio producing his films. He had to sell the right to the Terminator franchise to fund the film, and he is not too happy with what they've done with it.

Still waiting for the sequel to Titanic.  Then again, the first one was so predictable I don't know if I could handle a sequel...

Let me get this right. Your saying to not have the #1 movie in the world that made millions of dollars, that took years to make. To not have a sequel.

To be fair...there are just so many ways you can do a sequel to a blood and guts shoot'em up movie with the same characters...just look at Crank/Crank2...The Transporter...The Terminator...Smoking Aces/Smoking Aces 2...Kill Bill/Kill Bill2...and the list goes on...if you can't make it better, put more action into it.

Cameron wrote a general storyline for an Avatar trilogy before he started filming. Supposedly Avatar 2 will take place in Pandora's oceans, and will continue the Jake/Neytiri storyline. The third movie will have other leading characters and will take place on one of the other moons of Polyphemus (the gas giant Pandora orbits), or so the rumors say.

Well I'm curious when this new Avatar would even come out. If I had to guess I would say 2011 or 2012. I heard they were adding another 6 minutes to the first Avatar in August.

Cameron guesstimated that it would take three years from start of production. He hasn't even decided when to start yet; considering doing other projects first.
