To play this game and only this game? We really need info on how much you'd like to spend and your system specs.

Do you intend to crossfire? ;)

As Spikes said, your current system specifications (including PSU wattage and amperage on +12V rail) will be required before we can assist you. In addition, what do you plan on doing with a new video card? Do you want to play AH, view High-Definition media, etc...?

I intend to play Company of heroes TOV and AHII at max.

I'd say 5770...it can run this game pretty much at max but sometimes it struggles the slightest when you have max shadow textures on for self shadow.

The cost is about 159-179 depending on rebates/what brand you get. But it'd be nice to know the specs of your computer first.

Alright the main thing would be your power supply here...we'd need to know either Brand/model number or that + wattage and +12 amps.

I think jsut by opening the side of the case and either finding the model number or the info (it is usually a sticker on there).

turn off computer preferably by the switch in the back or unplug, take side panel off and there should be a sticker on the PSU you should be able to read the spec

"Gonna need a bigger boat."

It looks like a 300 watt PSU you got there.

5770 needs at least a 450 watt PSU according to AMD.

post a DXDIAG report, that will help alot as well........

can get the make of PC, sometimes the MotherBoard, CPU, memory, video, OS, sondcard, etc.....

will let everyone know if it is a proprietory PC or a clone ( Home built type pc )

will tell us how many processes you might be running and your pagefile size as well.........

and if you could swing the money, I would upgrade to minimal Windows 7 home edition 64 bit OS ( preferably Windows 7 Pro  or Ultimate 64 bit ) to gain asmuch performance from your CPU, Ram and new Video Card you decide to get, utilizing that dual core AMD processor.....

just my opinion though..... ( I am figuring you have Vista 32 bit )

you going to need a GOOD minimal 500 watt PSU ( 80% + eff. rating ) as well....

get the DXDIAG report and copy/paste top 2/3rds here on the boards ( to this thread )....

good luck......

You're going to need a new power-supply to accommodate a new video card.

Given he's got a 300W PSU who knows what type of video is supported by his motherboard.  This might end up being one of those it's better to save up and buy a new computer threads.  Posting that DXDiag would help.

Not always that clear cut BaldEagl... My family's had its share of HPs, Compaqs, Dells, etc. Some really aren't upgradable much, but others are. Dells seem to be relatively upgradable, for example. Relatively. PSUs are always cheap on these things though. I'm shocked his is running on only a 300W, but not totally surprised. I had a 2.8 GHz P4 Dell optiplex running on only a 250/270W PSU. When I upgraded the card I had to plop a better PSU into that puppy. Worked fine, upgraded okay, just no juice/overhead for anything new.

I know, I read it. :aok

This 3-year-old (4?) Dell I mentioned I upgraded had onboard video as well, but it also had a PCIe x16 slot and 800 MHz DDR2 compatibility. I was able to stick an ATI 4650 in here with no problem. Could have gone higher, but I was on a budget. I will amend that it is a 3.0GHz, not 2.8. My bad. Doing some work on it right now. I don't use it for gaming by it's a SIMS 2 box for the rest of my family and breezes through that with no problems.

Dell mid-towers seem a lot less crappy than they used to be, hardware-wise.

Back to your regularly scheduled hardware thread :)

Krusty & BaldEagl,

you both are saying the same things, just in a different way:

This might end up being one of those it's better to save up and buy a new computer threads.  Posting that DXDiag would help.

just my thoughts...... Posting a DXDiag would be of help to anyone trying to help you Crosfire.......
