Title: Best Three Hours of Television Ever
Post by: Saxman on April 25, 2010, 01:16:51 PM
Dunno why all the sudden I started thinking about this, but WOW this was such a great block:

I used to LOVE SciFi Fridays. Then they turned into nothing but paranormal garbage and god-awful ripoffs of terrible sequels to bad movies.

Could not agree with you more. Used to love sci friday, now they just plain suck. :(

BSG was awesome but kind of tapered off its last couple seasons.

The Sci FI channel has seen some ups and downs over the years. I was a big fan of Star Gate SG1. Farscape was cool as well.I forgot all about that invisible man show. It seems like some of these shows just disapear. Remember that show Lex? <G> I remember back in 2000 or around there you could turn sci fi on friday nite and have a solid 3 or 4 hours of good viewing.

sci fi channel used to be great. i loved farscape. and ya, i do remember the lex. was a cheesy kinda show, but good because of that cheesieness.

it seems as if scifi(syfy now) is playing mostly half assed stuff, with a few good teasers tossed in.

Old Sci-Fi (not SyFy) Fridays were the best. Battlestar and Star-gate now its just... suck.

SciFi first began to slip when it became "All Stargate, All the time." There was a time in the early 2000s that it was all they EVER played during the day. The higher-ups then started screwing with FarScape trying to force Henson to make it more like SG-1, and all that monkeying around is why Season 4 got off to such a shaky start (S4 just wasn't as good start-to-finish as S3, or even S2). THEN, despite averaging 4m viewers each week, (which ESPECIALLY for the time was VERY good for a basic cable program. Today it would be a runaway success) they decided to cancel it citing "Poor ratings."

To add insult to injury, maybe not a week after the series finale aired they announced the BSG remake because they "needed an edgy, space-based scifi drama."

THEY JUST FRELLING CANCELED ONE!

I would be willing to bet with near-absolute certainty that FarScape was canceled because of some personal agenda of Bonnie Hammer (principle network exec at the time. She's the one to blame for Tremors: The Series, Scare Tactics, and Dream Team). It could have pulled 20 million viewers and she'd have still found an excuse to kill it. Whether it was done deliberately to make room for BSG is hard to say, but it's an AWFUL big coincidence BSG was announced within days of FarScape's finale.

BSG never was high on my list after they started the poltical/moral lessons. Not very entertaining.

Farscape was original and entertaining.

:aok  what about Sci Fi's buying into other series like Dead Like Me and John Doe? I liked both of these series... And who here says Stargate Universe is BAD.... :(

They lost their way mid way through season 3.  It went from space adventure to space soap opera in the blink of an eye.

The jury is still out on that one.

Indeed.  :D

I was almost ready to give up after the first handful of episodes but it has shown some potential with "Time" and "Space".

I was really disappointed when they didn't make an Attack of the Zombie Crocodile 6.

The sad state of the *Sigh*Fy channel now is that there's the very real possibility of that NOT being a joke....

How many Python vs. Boa movies were there?

I like SG Universe.  It's just like ST Voyager which I also enjoyed watching.

I lost interest in BSG after the 4th episode or so, but I do like Caprica.

Firefly and Farscape  :aok

Babylon 5,  Bestest evah   :aok :aok

Oh come on, i watch it and like just for 7of9 :)

I cancel my SCi-Fi last year when they take down even the rest of cheesy series like Eureka.
Im not big fan of Caprica. It's boring.

As for SGU, its not bad but far below Firefly, Farscape, Gallactica
well, there is always

There is not much competition in SciFi right now, V is just stupid and boring

On the bright side, Brian Henson is trying to get Farscape going again.

Link?!

There were SO many loose ends, like the Nebari, Furlow, Maldis, and the point they made of showing Grunschlk and Sikozu together on the planet near the end of PK Wars.
