Title: wingman.....
Post by: betty on April 25, 2010, 03:24:20 PM
I can wing up with almost anyone, Killuminati vox channel at night becomes a crazy hang out vox channel for most anyone that likes to fly and join in  on the vox chatter. I have winged up with kermit, jaxxo, all my squadies, perdweeb and his crew, spin and many more to list...

My point is, last night I discovered that the one I am most compatible with as a wingman is the frog. Yep...kermit. Kermit taught me how to fly, he has taught me pretty much everything I know about the game. We have been flyin together for many years. I love to wing with all my squadies but kermit seems to be able to keep me focused on the task at hand...which is..whoopin on the red guys!! :)

Who would you list to be your favorite person to wing up with and why?

I'm just curious...i see many people like saber and mtnman winged up when they are on, I almost consider them as twins cuz they are always together when logged in.

Back when stokes played, we would be in the arena almost every day. We would just take some 38's to the deck, loads of fun. Fortunately, I believe he is going to be returning.  :)

Besides that, almost every one of my squaddies.

I love flying with kazaa because we have such a great laugh on ventrilo when we are killing but sometimes we over step the mark and get into all sorts of trouble with the red guys.   From a pure SA viewpoint we don't make the best couple because he has the patience of a red headed step child who has downed 10 cans of fizzy pop.   We end up competing for kills sometimes because they all die very quick.

Having a telepathic understanding with your wingman and for them to know what your going to do in every situation without having to call it is a special thing.

Unfortunately I am a really bad wingman so nobody will wing with me.....I am just too keen to get down and dirty...maybe one day I will calm down a little and become a better wingman.

dont feel bad, sometimes i have the attention span of a fly! dano used to be on our squad, he would just circle around watchin me get low and slow on the deck in the biggest furball and die. when i was divin in, all you would hear him say on vox was "there she goes......"

my other squadie shaunBN would circle around sayin "you have them surrounded betty", i would be askin him for help and he would reply "im not goin down there" and he would laugh at me when i died....HOW RUDE!!! :)

Usually I end up playing bait while the rest of the guys swoop in and clear my six of 5-6 cons every 4-5 minutes. I am a horrible wingman :)

Mcboi was my favorite wingman. He would get me out of all sorts of trouble, and when we were winging up, most times I would land my sorties.

MadKow is great to fly with and taught me ALOT on how to fly (Even though my SA is just horrible), I give myself credit that I can put up a good fight with just about anyone in the game..winning the fight..well I will work on that  :cry.

Im actually more fond of the random wingman.......About a month ago, I cant remember who, but we were attacking this base and me and this guy were working really well. I ended up with like 9 kills he got like 5 and there was about 5 cons upping to get us, we both made it rtb safely and landed.

But if I have a choose a wingman Ill go with Krupnski, but he doesnt talk so you have to watch your own six lol

I like winging up with 8Spade, always a blast to fly with on vox.

Now that I think of it, I don't think we've actually ever landed a sortie  :lol

Currently, I don't have a wingman.

In the old days, I used to have Corky/Dan as my wingman in countless scenarios. Don't let his modesty fool you, he can score kills and can be damn lethal when he wants to be. Before the days of vox, we were in Spits in a scenario and 4 high 190s bounced us, all we texted to each other was 'bracket, left/right'. Within 30 seconds later, 3 of the 190s were dead and the last one was running home.

Besides, it is a real perk having a wingman that has forgotten more about historic aviation than I'll ever know.

Hmmm...I guess I can hang with almost anyone as thier wingman...just don't get into trouble and expect a good outcome all the time, my gunnery sucks.

Gah, I'm probably the worst wingman in the entire game.  I like to fly with my squaddies all the time, but they have to bail me out of trouble all the time too.  I pretty much always lose track and get too deeply involved in fights.  I'm just bad at it...

I remember one FSO where we had Temps and our job was to escort bombers.  I was trying to give strategy input on being patient and next thing I know, Bipolar pulls a "Leroyyyyy Jenkinssss!!!!!!!!!" and dives 18k to pounce a cluster of enemies.  Next thing I know the entire squadron is following his stupid arse in on the deck slaughtering the enemy.  Luckily it all worked out and no one died and it makes for a pretty funny story.

Del is tough to beat for a wingman.  As he mentioned we've flown a number of scenarios back to the airwarrior days.  That's about the only time I get too serious about winging.  He's probably gotten more kills in scenarios saving my flying wreckage then anywhere else :)

The two Spit Vs against the 190s will always stand out.

Soulyss is a close second as he's done more winging in the MA with me.  A couple of 39 sorties have been memorable.  Winging in DGS was good fun too.  Most of the time in the MA it's my job to be bait and the rest of the 80th guys shoot the trail of bad guys following my smoking 38.

Both Del and Soulyss are masters of "how bout we do this" or 'you might want to watch out for that guy." while pretending I'm the guy in front deciding where to go.  I live so much longer when I listen to them :)

Had a number of great wingmen over the years, flying Dan/Corky/Guppy's wing in the DSG scenario will always be a high point in my Ah career except for the part where he was escorting my shot up 38 back home when it's supposed to be the other way around. :)

In the MA's I've been blessed with some rather talented and just around decent folks to fly with some have moved on like Mathman and Saw, the current group of miscreants that I fly with do a great job of keeping the game fresh and laughs frequent.  Personally I think it takes a lot to stick around on my wing for more than a sortie, I've invited a couple folks along for the ride recently and the sortie that usually goes some like...

Wingman: "hey Soul, you DO see that big blob of red coming our way right? We're about to get ganged..."
Me: "yes of course I do that's why we're here isn't?"
*wingman quietly tunes off the radio channel and turns around*
Me: "ok I'm going to start in on guys to the righ.... hello?"
*a few seconds later a P-38G, missing most of it's critical parts and trailing smoke plows a large hole in someone's field*

Have no idea what this thread is about (can hardly type)...... discovered local winery.  However, tried to wing with some folks I thought would be fun to jump in with after a long night of work and way too much wine (un wine ing)  :x

I guess, the wingman concept, is something mostly enjoyed by those who have flown together for a while (ie. Betty.... )  Anyhow, scrolled down to find a couple of my old friends from Duxford RAF, and had a blast.... just plucking away at the keyboard.

Sometimes, wingman is something more than a guy to catch your back, it just may be someone who can make you forget about what a crappy day/ night of work, etc. yada yada...

Catch me when it's about time to leave for work and might not be so great to wing with, but catch me with a buzz......  and maybe I might actually stick to your wing (if for no other reason, than to keep from having to look where I am going).

Wingman.. Hmm, would love to know what it feels like to really wing up with someone, but I'm more like a lonewolf.. Even if I fly together with my squad in MA, I tend to go my own ways alot.. Still having a great time, but since I am Norwegian my english is not as good as I wish.. So I don't speak on vox, therefore winging with someone would not be the same.

I did however wing up with TnDep in AvA for a few sorties earlier today, he did the talking and I replyed by typing when I needed to. I don't think I managed the winging very well, but atleast I tried to give him ch6 calls and clear off those attacking him. As he did the same for me. But the other guys were just too good and too many, so we died alot out there today..  :frown:

Having to fly a jap plane I never fly normally didn't actually help alot on my part either..

But I hope to be able to wing up with someone again, so I can learn a few wingman tactics too.

TnDep is holding a ACM clinic today for the 358th in the AvA at 6 pm EST (if you are available).  I am sure that he will be glad to give you some tips, that we all could benefit from.

I didn't realize you were Norwegian, your English sounded very good to me.

A good wingman for me is someone who knows how to set up a target, without killing your wingman's E advantage.

A lot of folks that I try to clear their six, pull too many G's and don't announce their intentions, like:  "I am breaking right and climbing.... "

If done properly, you might be the bait for a short time, but your chances of surviving are better, the quicker you are able to dispense with enemy contacts.  Dragging an attacker into your wingman's window of opportunity, in turn should give you a better chance of reversing the attack when he breaks.

My take on winging up is basically one guy is being bait. The real trick is knowing how you wingman flys, not to get too far away, but yet not too close. And communication. You have to tell one another what you're doing and when.
