Ports are not small little encampments with only a couple buildings like the ones we have in-game, especially ones that service CV battle groups. Ports are the only base type that did not get updated. I ask that this happens & that they look more like the other base types in size and object number, making them "feel" more important.

I give this a +100000000000
Ports could really use an update. And if set up like that maybe if you bombed some of those buildings CV re up time could be lengthened!

Nope, totally AH.

Ranger I love this idea. Did you do the modeling on those buildings? They're amazing.
-
I'd love a new port...add larger towns also for more GV fun and maybe capturable cities too
-
Ranger +1
Could you possibly put a bridgehead together so Hitech could see how Ubber theyd be :D

They are some of the buildings that came from our new city strats. No custom objects or textures were used. There are all kinds of things that could be added to the games with the objects we have, it's just that no one ever does and/or they are not allowed. This is actually the port from my Rngrcove terrain. Once we get private servers again, I'll be breaking out all the goodies. I really hope HTC will remodel the port, no matter what look they wish to use. Anything would be better than nothing. Except a few more for ack, I believe the port is still an AH1 model.

I've already built it, just never showed any pics.

Dont you hold out on us!!!

+ Whatever numebr it takes to get this done :neener:

What is all this talk of private servers? Did I miss something? Im really hoping I did. :)
-
Ranger amazes me once again, looks great +1. :)
-
superb modeling Ranger. Ports are definitely in need of an update, what about the addition of a 2nd manned ack?
anyways, nice work. <S>

:aok :aok Looks great here's hoping :pray
-
Oh yeah. I can dig it. :aok
-
That looks brilliant! Yay!
Also, taking down a port SHOULD increase time before CV fleet is re-built. That way we can suppress the enemy navy - or they have to fly patrols and protect it and/or resupply. Adds to the game.

It may be a long time, if at all, but I hope it happens. :aok

:D hehehe...yes you did miss something...someone let the cat out of the bag and said he is working on bringing H2H in a way that would allow players to control their own HTC hosted mini servers.

Very nice!!!!
make us one up for the gv bases as well please!!
one can only dream!

+1. Very well done Ranger, thanks.

I'm liking this idea as well.

That is truly going to bring a whole new level of fun and excitement to AH. Im glad HTC decided to work on a refurbished version of the old H2H, it is going to breathe new life into the game.
On topic: :)
Ranger, how often are your creations accepted by the staff? They are serious improvements. I must be unawares of the technical gymnastics required to put them into the game.

Beautiful Ranger!
-
Ever notice how the buildings are wayy outta proportion compared to the VH? :P
-
I love this!
Didn't see a maproom.
Great keeping the instructable away from the hanger. Would make spawn camping difficult to an extent...
Would also make for an interesting landing a goon at the port and potentially a long run for the troops.
+1 PLEASE!!!???
:aok

Never thought of it before but I agree on this one for sure. :aok

Put some cruisers, destroyers, battleships, battlecruisers, carriers, and other lighter ships in port and you have a winner. I feel the navel aspect in Aces High isn't what it could be, so +2 for this idea.
-
But it has 2 dars?
:lol

The original had a variety of ships in port:

This thread was to ask for a new port, the pic I posted was just a visual aid to show what I was talking about. I didn't mean for it to be the actual topic. :) Yeah, it has 2 radars because this was part of a terrain for offline missions, never meant for actual online play (tho it is fully functioning). The 2nd dar tower was just used as a filler for that spot.
-
+2 :aok
-
Yes sir...... I know......... This is your offline mission right? I have it downloaded, GREAT PORTS. Great Mission!
I was simply making a joke my BOP Brother! :salute
-
I love your water color in that screen shot. All too often the water looks like the North Atlantic in January.
-
Can ports please be linked to the strat system other than as carrier spawns? Maybe a destroyed port slows down resupply for nearby bases. Maybe ports are introduced as the only thing that could affect hanger repair at nearby fields...that would be interesting.

Oh I know bro. No feelings hurt :D. That is why there are 2 dar towers though, just for looks. It also has 3 manned acks instead of the default's one. Hopefully HTC will consider a port update. :pray
-
And not to brown nose you anymore but................ That map layout is freakin AWESOME. 1st time I up'd that mission I was blown away!

i noticed that too. out of all those buildings, theres just one little VH up front :rofl

That first picture looks like Norfolk Naval Station in Va. I think I can even pick out the O club we use to hang out at ! :aok
-
I'm agreeing with Ranger, please update the ports! :aok

bumpgrade the port

Could we have a map with large seas and each side has 3 large ports inside an inlet - like a sort of Pearl Harbour.
-
Yup this sort of port would be more challenging as well (IMO) more fun. Flak ships would make the sea ward approaches more interesting.
Equally I believe that Vehicle fields should be based on the edge of towns.
It always seems wierd to me that in RL airfields are usually placed away from major settlements, vehicle/troop centres were based at strategic logistic points (ie towns/cities/crossroads) and ports were towns/cities in their own right. Which is actually the reverse of AH architecture.
I think if HTC did add more architecture then rebuild times would have to be extended to compensate.
-
That's very true. I'm guessing HTC could do it in stages too, e.g. create new tiles for smaller airfields with no VH and the map room in the control tower. New medium sized fields with barracks and admin blocks in place of the town, and put the map room in the main office block. A tile with just a town and the map room in the mayors' office - although there would have to be a point to capturing it.
I'm looking forward to the bomber Mosquito to do low-level NOE intruder missions - but I'm stuck for targets. There are no bridges, radars are inside heavily defended airfields (suicide for low level attacks), and the HQ needs too much ordnance. There are no rail marshalling yards and the roads and rail are indestructable. I suppose the barracks in VHs are possible, but they're tactical. <sigh>
-
When I first looked at this I thought oohhh... nice. That would be cool. Then I started to think about all those nights I've sat alone at a port or GV base in a Tiger as the only defender. A layout like this would make it much easier for the enemy to sneak around buildings and flank you essentially making a lone defense impacticable. The saving grace now is the field of view that you have as a defender and let's face facts, on the big maps there are already more bases than there are those willing to defend.
I'm actually torn on the idea. It looks nice but it seems to me the layout would have to be changed to allow a descent field of view to valuable targets and approaches for a lone defenseman. Maybe if all the builings had to be destoyed before taking the maproom that might help.
Anyway, nice job, nice idea, not sure.
-
That's a good point, although you could just park by the maproom, or flit from gun position to gun position.
Come to think of it - why can't we move to a gun position that's been destroyed? Sure the gun's useless, but people can still move around.
