Once again, they botch up our history by leaving out the French and Indian War. Wounder how much they will screw up the Civil war and Sioux War.
-
Well it was French vs British not really our history. Kind of but not really we were still part of the British empire. Just saying. And it really in the scheme of things is not that important compared to the revolution.

Oh, my dear friend. the F&I War was a important part of Pre-American History. If the French would have won the war, the outcome of this vary nation would not be the same as to the rest of the world.
-
I agree with you had potential to change the nation but it ended up not happening. And again it was the french and the british fighting. I understand why they left it out and I understand why you would like it to be included. I don't think they botched history by excluding it.
-
The only resulting significance of the f&i war was that the french got pushed up into canada, we dont speak french now, and a shift of economic power in europe, nothing really that significant for the americans.
other then that i really enjoyed this serries.

I thought they did an ok job with the first show, It was nice to see the History Channel have something on about.............History
-
ok job? they skipped Concord Bunker Hill and Evacuation Day and went straight for Washington in NY!!! Ticonderoga and its cannon was left out also!!!
-
When the British won the F&I war, they levied a heavy war tax on the 13 colonies to pay for the conflict. This unfair tax was a prelude to the hostilities to come in the Revolution.
-
Although I'll admit the taxes certainly may have been a catalyst for the war, to say the taxes were unfair is a bit asinine. Last I checked the American's surely helped start the F&I war because of the fur that was abundant in Ohio. The British ended up fighting that war while we continued to smuggle and sell wares to the French which probably only prolonged the war. In the end they didn't want to pay a tax for a war that helped protect their own interests that the British couldn't enforce properly anyways due to the fact that they were across the Atlantic ocean. I'm not entirely sure I'd call this unfair...
In the end though I'd certainty say it has its proper place in American history and by no means is unimportant.

Trying to pack everything regarding the war into the span of time they have would be impossible, heck they could make a 10day miniseries on the war. I think for the sake of moving things along things will be skipped. Im just glad its a show about history on ............(wait for it )............................. ...........THE HISTORY CHANNEL.
And yes, i think they did an ok job

The F&I War was a battle the determine who holds control of present day America. However, what is more important about the war is the people who fought in it, the Native American Indians. Mostly Iroquois Nation but many other nation aswell. It is unknowed as to how many fought and die but they played a significat role in the war.
Like most American history, the history of Native American Indian tends to be left out. When this series comes to the western frontier, I would not be surprise that they will not talk about broken treaties, assimilation, massacre and biological war fare the U.S. Government and military practice on the Plains Indians, South western Indians and Rocky Mt Indians.

"Unfair" in the sense that it was forced upon the colonists without representation in parliament. I didn't say that the colonist shouldn't have paid taxes at all. What matters is that the colonists saw it as unfair, and since their viewpoint is the central perspective here then whether or not any of us today would deem it as unfair is irrelevant.
-
I have to agree with the OP. I hear some saying the F&I War "was a French vs. British thing" while totally forgetting about the large amount of Native Americans that were involved in the struggle. To leave that part of our history as Americans is a mistake.

Who is "they"?

The history channel.

The history channel.
Well there you have it. Those twits at the History Channel think that a show about a pawn shop is relevent. One must consider the source. The History Channel is not a good source for history, sad to say.

pfff. i knew that a long time ago.

What's really frightening is the people that take what they say on that channel as gospel. I'm sure there's alot too.

Could be right on that. But one thing for sure, the history of Native American Indians is often over shadow and ignore.
-
its a show, they cant include everything that happened or it would take 200+ years to really tell the whole story.

Actually most of the founding fathers just thought that was a good excuse for the revolution but they didn't believe any of that crap about "Taxation without Representation" which was complete bullcrap becuase they would have only the population in those American colonies for two seats which was insignificant to say the least.

you would be surprised how many people watch that show, heck my dad loves that show. The variety of stuff people bring in and the history behind some of the stuff is interesting. Then there's Chum, listening to him is enough reason for me to watch it.

These generally do a bit better job than TV.

You can not possibly fit everything that happened into a series like this. Hell you still don't learn everything even with a PhD in American History. There is just way too much material to cover and somethings are bound to be left out.
The point of the show to give a generalization of how America came to be. The French and Indian war was crucial, but however you have to think of it from the point of view as a company, if the History Channel were to include every detail of history the series itself would last for years, if not decades. This would cost millions in production for just one show.
Unfortunately most Americans do not know too much about History, and the point of the entire channel is to create content for the average American. If it created content for History Wiz's like us, then it would be like going back to school for a history lesson, it's sad to say but that does not bring in viewers.
In order for the History Channel to operate they need viewers, without them they are out of business.
