Title: Cockpit layout pics
Post by: darxe on April 26, 2010, 01:26:15 PM
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in posting a picture of their cockpit.  Basically where do you sit, what your desk looks like, monitor, joystick etc...  I am interest in the ergonomics people use when playing.  I started thinking about this as I started looking for a new desk and wanted to get something that works really good for AH.

There used to be a long thread around here that had pics of peoples setups. I have no clue what it was titled though.... :(

Sometimes there are empty PBR cans on the desk and the bookshelf at my left.

Nice monitor.  That a CH Flightstick you got there?

Correct.   CH Pedals as well.

I see you have it set up so you have to hit the booze before flying,  nice!

This is my new area of play...I got sick of the ack rolling over in her sleep make I'm sleeping but you are bugging me noises....so I moved....I was just on your average comp desk prior....now just for a bigger screen and I'm set...(A new PC wouldn't go amiss but that can wait a bit.
Flashed it so you could see

LOL...put yourself in the dungeon? Nice. I hope that is a CFL bulb taped above the keyboard...unless you're really needing the heat down there.

This is what I use for my dirt dart tricks. Just got the new TM stick...replaced a Saitek X stick which only lasted a year...22 inch Acer, Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X, G5 mouse, Cyborg keyboard, TekNMotion headset, Core Duo 2.4Ghz system...all low budget but it works.

It's funny bro.   The older my son gets (he'll be 9 in Sept.), the less I drink around him and I have never been "drunk" around him to begin with.  I have too much respect for him and myself, to ever be in that state around him in the first place.

It's usually swigs of Scotch here, swig of vodka there and joking around with squaddies.   However, when Lute and I have been drinking, it's nothing short of comedy gold on squad vox.

It's not so bad, it is integrated into the house with carpet and the likes. This happens to be the only cinder block wall down here the rest are lined. It is a place for hanging out, drum kit in the corner, amp and guitar there also boxing bag etc..... My SA has definitely improved now that I don't have to worry about my surroundings.
The globe is just a little 25watt so I can see the keyboard..not much heat from it...I did keep checking the heat thing for a bit, it would have been nasty if I became a candle for real. Just needed it to see the keyboard...although my typing has improved since playing this game (I can use 2 fingers now hahaaha) I am still a long way from touch typing.

Some of the guys here have defiantly got some good set ups and have probably spent much time to get to what they have....one thing I find is how accustomed you get to a particular set up over time...when I changed a few weeks ago it was really disorientating at first. I was getting dizzy and almost went back to the desk.

When we get moved into the new house I am going to build a setup in my office downstairs. I will post some photos of the area soon for where I plan on putting the setup.

I want to get my setup so that my flightstick and throttle are mounted down.  I get excited sometimes and my joystick will slide on me  ;)

I like a few setups I saw with the flightstick between your legs mounted on the same platform as you rudder pedals.  Plus the redlight ;)

Sub-woofer sits behind the seat for a nice kick.
.....looks like a Logitech ad. :)

Been a few changes: The bar that separates the mouse and keyboard in the second picture is now turned outwards 90 degrees so the tray slides into place without moving keyboard.  The desk on the right is now turned 90 degrees and is placed over the "out of the way" keyboard mount, and some other minor changes.  Only part that is bad is getting out.

Well mines only going to look like this for a few more weeks. I had this thing for years, but my old bones are telling me it's time to retire it. I'm building an 11 foot desk to share with the wife, complete with an ejection seat....for her  :devil

I like the thing you did with the keyboard!  Just don't drink too much beer to fast so you have time to get out

Sheperd....That is the awesome!  Even the pads for the sides of your knees is a great idea.  :aok

Do the buttons on your left all work?  If so how did you wire them into the keyboard mapping?  Is the monitor just above the joystick a working monitor of gauges?

Yes absolutely better with center stick!  I could never go back to sidestick for flying.. With the bigscreen, force feedback, and TiR5, it's pretty awesome... Next, I'd like to get rid of the keyboard completely, but will loose some versatility that way, gamepad maybe..
The close to lifsize scale, no zoom neccesary view, is the killer deal for me.. Like looking out from the real cockpit, awesome!

Honestly tho, for GV'ing, I'd rather have my old 3dPro, in the old side stick position.. Just works better for tankin, for me anyway!

Best of luck with whatever you get!

If its in the pit it is fully functional!
With that being said at the moment the 4th monitor is just a desktop back ground and I use that for ventrillo, maps... However, I have figured out how to display functional real time dedicated gauges without hacking the program on a seperate monitor, but have not done it at this point in time...  but it is coming  :D

send me a PM and I'll give you the scoop  :aok ( it does require a small investment to accomplish it though)... some pilots think it will give you an unfair advantage and I fear I may be Griefed badly if I post it...like I said I can build em better than fly them.
