you are having an hard time because that joystick is a low quality one. I have a logitech extreme 3d pro too, and it went back in its original box, now closed and with a solid dust's layer.
Can't remember how many times I tried to calibrate and scale that dip-stick

copying someone elses settings probably wont fix your problems, and it certainly wont help you understand what is going wrong. its critical to set up the deadbands on the logitech before anything else, and it will require plenty. almost all the problems people have with logitechs are down to the spiking pots and slack around the centre, which can be eliminated completely by setting the correct deadband.
do one axis at a time, use the advanced settings, centre the stick and just jiggle it gently. you need to gradually increase the deadband until you dont see any spikes at all. then fly it around for a few sorties to check the difference. after you've done the deadband you can start playing with the damping and scaling if you want, but you dont have to. :)

I agree.
But as a starting point BANZAI_SPARKS might want to start here:

Funny. My Logitech lasted 5 years (last I heard an ex-CAF squaddie had it and a lone button on the stick went) and was still working. I'd rather have that stick, than the POS Saiteks.

Depends which Saiteks you are talking about...it seems as though I am the only person who has a working X52 (4-5 years) and an ST290 that still works with a touchy hat switch.

I'm pushing 4 years on my X52.. not a single problem. I've only had trackIR for just over a year so most of that time was using the hat for views... still works perfectly.

I originally had a Sidewinder Pro(it was awesome) until my first PCS move and the movers packed it at the bottom of box. Never had any issues with Logitech my one and only Saitek(ST290) the hat switch crapped out so I went back to Logitech and currently use the Extreme 3D Pro.
