"A 19-year-old college freshman missed class Tuesday when a federal judge decided to teach her a civics lesson by ordering federal marshals to haul her in chains from school to court to explain why she shirked jury duty."
At first I thought it was a bit much until I carefully read the story. Seems she more or less thumbed her nose at the court.
And Daddy is going to sue? lol yeah right. Like sure a local attorney worth anything is going to want to tick off some federal judge in the area he works. And another judge is actually going to hear the case?
Anyway it's entertaining so thought I'd pas it along.

I am sitting at a computer in the CY-Fair library.
Now, I'm looking around for a girl in short shorts with green streaks in her hair...
-
Hell at best you are looking at a severe balling out if missing it. I think you can catch a contempt of court charge for not having a damn good reason for not showing up.

and now...the rest of the story.

What's funny is, all that individual had to do was send in a letter requesting an exemption based on the fact that she was trying to further her education and offered some proof and she would have been off scott free. I did this while i was in my EMT training due to the fact that I was nearing the end of my training and was going to be using the time to study.

Go back and read the materials from the beginning. She passed up that option. She showed up the first day, completed the questionnaire, and was supposed to come back on the Monday for a panel.

Ah, it service her right for being arrogant and disrespectful in the first place. Have some common sense little girl, daddy not going to bail you out for the rest of your life.

“Don't treat her like she murdered 25 people along the freeway,” he said. “She's 19, she's ignorant, she's a kid. They don't take anything seriously.”
Ignorance is no excuse for disobeying the law.

Either way, she had alternatives to just skipping out, which was my point.

AMEN GFShill!
Just another father trying to explain away behavior that has been allowed to go on for FAR too long. I suppose when she is 29, married and has at least 2 kids and leaves one in the car to die in the Texas heat that her parents would say then that "Well she was an ignorant kid and she never took anything seriously."
STUPID PARENTS for allowing their child to grow up that way and yet another reason that I believe we are SCREWED when we are old and this group of youngsters is running around still believing they are entitled to do whatever they want.
After watching the video I am surprised by one thing...she wasn't white...white kids these days constantly surprise me with their (as a whole group and I am around them A LOT) total lack of respect to people in authority but I am not surprised that the parent/lawyer was upset by the restraints now seeing the ethnic background of the group.

more like just another father trying to explain how he failed in 19 years to manage to teach his daughter a little responsibility, or common sense.

Fill in the blank with whatever you want and this statement is true. Where I live, I see the exact opposite of how you wrote it.

I agree with exactly what you are saying Dragon it just depends on the location you live in. Down here I fight it on a daily basis with my own teenage son and its a PITA even after all this time of teaching the right things to make sure he follows the rules as he should.

Just performed my civic duty yesterday :rock

Chick is all but illiterate - not sure whether that would have been good or bad for the defendants.

Good on the judge. I hope he got her an illustrated copy. I doubt she would understand the pure prose copy.
