Title: tactics?
Post by: stealth on April 30, 2010, 01:40:45 AM
Well I got a real great friend making my skills going from good and ok to 10X better. I got a couple links here to help some with tactics. If anybody else has any links to help me with wingman tactics and some 1vs1 merges I only use 4 but theres like 17to21 diffrent merges I don't know yet. I like ones that show it 3 dimensional ways. Any good links or tactic info with do just fine.<S>

Some solid information (basically pulled right from Robert Shaws book) but its important (IMO) to realize that its the application and timing thats important. Most folks look to some "secret move" when the reality is simply that a proper understanding of ACM leads to a better and more timely implementation of ACM. Normally its not a question of pilot A doing something decidedly wrong as much as pilot B does the correct things faster and more efficiently and has a better grasp of what his upcoming options are. This is often generically referred to as "read and react" and translates as a pilot with a firm grasp of his preferred tactics and a solid understanding of how your action/reactions effect/limit and/or expand his choices.

There are not a fixed number of merges or a 100% correct choice that wins a fight. As a generic comment there are only 3 merges, +E/-E/co-E. This translates to options specific to angles vs energy state and can be impacted by a desire to gain a positional advantage or to secure the initial shot window. As an example a pilot who has a reasonable belief that he is merging in a -E state has the potential opportunity to fly for an initial shot window or angular position (or both) with minimal tactical loss since he is already -E. If he can achieve a position that forces his opponent to defend against a shot this can help to establish sustained angular advantage while equalizing E state due to the evasive forced.

However the same tactics flown from a neutral E state (or +E) might very well end the fight before it even begins. No fight occurs in a vacuum and any given tactic has to be evaluated in the context of your opponents position and E state.

Lots of detail and information on that website. this is a help and training center right ? isn't tactics used to help you ? can't believe its in the wrong forum, unless theirs a forum for tactics, even so i don't think it really matters.
