Title: How is this fun?
Post by: vafiii on April 30, 2010, 09:01:02 AM
Last night I jumped in a tank, spawned to an enemy air base and... was killed ten straight times. Barely got my engine started and was hit by someone I never saw. The same guy, ten straight kills. Every time I spawned I was killed instantly at the spawn point. After calling off my eleventh spawn, the lone gunman posted his 10 kills (all me). I spawned to another base and... same thing. Ten spawns, killed ten times, instantly. Again, my adversary posted his ten kills, eh, victories (all me). Disgusted, I signed off for the night. So much for having fun. So I ask, why are enemy spawn points visible on the map? Enemy CV's are not visible. Why are enemy spawn points visible?

Because they do not move. Amazingly enemy bases and strat are also shown on the map.

Also it sounds like the enemy were having lots of fun?

Yeah figure after like the fourth time the spawn is probably camped.

He would not kill you ten times if you didn't keep uppin in from of him.

Thing to remember about the spawn camp.......  Sometimes, you need a friend.  Campers crave the lone gunman because of the decided advantage.

That goes away fast if you and 2 other people up.

There are two basic types of "spawn camping".  There is the "spawn battle" which happens thanks to most maps having spawns right on top of each other.  So if I'm sitting on my spawn, and you're sitting on yours and we're 1.5k apart shooting at each other then we're both lame campers and it's no harm no foul.  Then there is the "you attacked our base we pushed you all the way back to your spawn and you aren't smart enough to quit" spawn camp.  Face it if you are getting vulched/camped then you have basically already lost the battle, in the real world you would be dead and we would be pillaging your homes and raping your sheep.

Another few words of advice for you: bring a JABO, bomb him to kingdom come.  Also when you spawn jump to commanders position and watch where the fire is coming from.  Based on the location of fire, decide if you can realistically get your turret around and on target before the enemy tank can fire.  If cannot, do not feed the campers anymore.  I will give them 2 or maybe 3 freebie kills, then bomb the crud out of them or bring friends to the spawn like Logan mentioned.  Either way, camper will be destroyed.

Best advice is what others have already said, bring a jabbo drop him some easter eggs, then listen to him whine about how you had to use a plane to kill him while he's on a camping trip

Two somewhat easy ways to break a camp. 1) spawn a T34 and do not start your engine, look for the guy and shoot him. The T34 has the fastest turrent movement. 2) Up a heavy fighter from the closest base and fly over there and bomb them into next week. What is the worse thing gonna happen, spwn camper cry and call you a bomb****?  :salute

Spawn camping is pretty much the same as setting up an ambush in real life. Some may say that it isn't fair as the NME knows where you are coming from and such but in the real world, ambushes are set up where the NME is known to be coming from or traveling through on regular basis.

If you don't want to get kill at a spawn point, you could take the long way to the nme base in a tank.

Same thing happened to me last night. I uppeed from the vh and was promptly killed three times. I then realized that they had the base covered pretty well and I moved on. Not my lucky night. I will not however complain that it was no fun .
Even that was more fun then survivor or dancing with the idiots !!  :neener:

That's just it, THEY, didn't have the base covered. It was one guy at the spawn point picking me off from miles away. Happened at 2 bases. Couldn't even get my engine started, didn't want to up a plane and fly all the way there only to have him "end sortie" the minute I flew overhead. To me, it's like vulching a runway in the DA. You get easy kills, but what have you really accomplished?

sounds like the fun would have been coming back with bombs after the 2nd death. I would have came back after the first one, i don't bother with campers on the ground to often.

I'm not sure. Let me consult with BagRat, since he's very good at calculations.

Oh, here it is... BagRat's done some analysis work.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Shouldn't have reupped past the 2nd time. Should have taken a plane with bombs and killed the camper.

No it probably wasn't fun, but its up to you to think also.

I would STOP re-upping at the spawn.

Then up a heavy 38 or typhie and head NOE to his last known position.

He sees his base or town flashing and thinks he's missed seeing you.

No dar bar--then BOOM.

Its a hobby. :neener:

What about the newb that doesnt understand the game yet and gets killed like that?  No seasoned player would continue to up, at least i would hope not.....  Wonder if that would keep a 2 week trial guy from becoming a paying player?  Lack of help and frustration of dying over and over again like that?
Title: Re: How is this fun?

If they give up over dieing they aren't going to last long either way.  And there are seasoned players who up repeatedly at camped spawns.  Some folks love shooting their way out of a spawn camp.

Im not a GV'er, but have you considered designating a larger area wherein a tank may spawn; location being random?

The heart of this game is about pissing off the other guy.

Seems I remember someone from a long time ago said this recently. Wasnt he that guy who figured out an applet so he could long range aim his tank gun in Air Warrior? Just saying. Seems if you are pissing someone off you are getting your $14.95 worth............

I love upping against campers, especially if it's multiple campers. It makes me feel better when I kill a few of them. It is real fun though to keep upping to keep them busy while a squadmate runs over with bombs to kill them. :devil

However that said, I won't keep reupping if the campers are to the rear of my spawn and the spawn is in an area where you never spawn behind some cover. Otherwise it sounds like a fun time to me even if they get a bunch of kills out of the deal.

Egging spawn campers gives me reason to live on from day to day, and reinforces my entire belief system.

Week or so ago I upped into a camped spawn, got blasted by 2 different guys 2 times in a row. There was a very small air presence, and we pretty much had it covered, so I brought back a heavy Jug, 2x1000 and a 500 pounder. Found the fools, egged both of them and one of their life partners who was also there. RTB, rearm pad, headed back. Caught 2 of the three almost back to their camp site, egged both of them again and laughed my arse off after the 200 whines started. RTB'ed to land my egg kills and lucked out by finding a lone Typhie trying to pork our field, dropped on him and killed him before he could get there. Landed my 6 still whining scalps.

THAT my friends is living!  :rofl :aok :rock

Tip: 1299342

Dont spawn and crank the engine,  the engine sends smoke up from starting.  Basically, a here I am shoot me thing.  Grab the 50cal and take a quick scan to see of the terrain first.  I usually dont start the engine, until I have done this anytime I spawn.

The definition of insanity... According to some.. Is, trying the same thing more than twice and expecting a different result.. You might try camping a spawn with someone who knows how to do it.. (certainly not me.. lol).. That would be the best way to see what your up against.. I prefer to dive bomb them..  :aok

I think it is a lot of fun trying to break a camp. I would have spawned in and dropped smoke. After a couple of times getting killed , you may have smoked out the spawn enough to hide yourself from view of the camper. I have only been playing for about a year, but "TxMom" is one of the best spawn camp breakers I have seen. I have seen this player break a spawn camped by more than 5+ tanks.  I never spawn in and start my engine without taking a 360 degree look around. If there is more than one camper at a spawn, your best off quitting after getting killed a few times. Up a p38 and drop bombs on them. From what I have learned, the biggest mistake you can make is to spawn in and start your engine before taking a 360 degree look around. The camper has to constantly be looking for where the tank will spawn in. If you start your engine, your making it easier for him to spot and kill you.

I think it is part of the game. No use getting upset about it. I learn a lot about this game when I get killed by someone better. I have been killed many many times by some of the best GVers in the game and have sent them a personal message asking what I did wrong, and they always tell me what I did that got me killed, and gave me advise on how to get better.  I enjoy the GV part of this game very much. The strategy of a wooded area tank battle is always fun. Yes, I do get mad sometimes when I am in a tank battle and some guy drops an egg on my head, but I consider it part of the game.

Everyone flys, everyone dies.  This is the mantra we should live by.

If you just died, you made a mistake, someplace.  Even if it was as simple as trying to up from the wrong location.
Don't blame the other guy, accept the fact that you made a mistake.
Learn from it, and move on.

Reupping the same place 20 times is not learning from it.
Its not patience, its not persistence, and its not perseverance.
Its stubborn.

Its refusing to accept the fact that your making a mistake.
And its refusing to stop, rethink, and try something or someplace else.

I'm sorry if this comes across as being cold hearted.
But those are the cold hard facts.
If you want to have fun here, at times you need to think about what your doing.
If your not having fun you probably want to think about how your doing it.
