Title: Entered the Jet Age
Post by: Kirin on April 30, 2010, 09:58:23 AM
Greetings aces

After a quick comeback AH again lost its appeal to me. Maybe much owed to the fact that my old squad was not there anymore. As I evolved through my flight simming career the daily MA furball madness just doesn't cut it anymore. 'The Final Battle' scenario was great but these kind of activities don't justify the time and effort I put into AH. So looking for alternate playgrounds I've stumbled over LOMAC again - plus the newly released Flaming Cliffs 2. I also took a leap forward and applied to the JagdBomberGeschwader 32 (http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?lang=en (http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?lang=en)). I was accepted for the trial and I am now in Basic Jet Training. I wouldn't know how much fun it is *just* to fly the plane! In a couple of weeks I will have my Entry Check. So I am *learning* things I have long forgotten about aviation and working on my flying and navigational skills which weren't necessary in AH MA. My goal is to achieve combat ready status until the end of year to be ready for the next Low Land Tiger Meet!  :D (http://www.lowlandtigermeet.com/ (http://www.lowlandtigermeet.com/)). The thrill of formation flying, take-off and landing with less than 10m of spacing is really exciting.

So after more than a century of recreating WW2 airwarfare I entered the realm of modern day jet aviation.

A teaser for the new Platinum Lock On (basically Lock On plus Flaming Cliffs 2 on 1 DVD) --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99_hoJNj3ys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99_hoJNj3ys)

it also requires double-time recreating pace as WWII was only 65 years ago.

Nah he meant to say that he's been flight siming in non-jet aircraft since the wright bros simulator came out for the abacus back in 1910.   :airplane:

I wonder if that game allows customs skins for aircrafts. I've been looking to get it, and if I do, I want to take an Su-33 and make a "Yellow Squardon" skin for it from the game "Ace Combat 4"  :airplane:

'I wouldn't know how much fun it is *just* to fly the plane! '

I always loved that feeling in Flanker series.

Thanks for the video links. Pretty cool.

Those Videos rock!   How do they overcome the lag factor though?

I hear there's quite a ruckus over whether all of them are real...

Yeah well i know how hard it is to stay in formation on AH because of the lag factor. and that just flying straight and level. But those guys with the turning and manuvering you wouldnt think it would be possible.

I am sure not *all* of them are untinkered but most of the teams show great flying skills. And you can follow the VFAT online life. Some of the teams also put up uncut tracks of their shows - like the Virtual Patrouille Suisse for example.

BTW, the Virtual Blue Angels are freaking awesome, although I like the post-production of the Berkuts better.

I believe Cobra516 is a virtual Thunderbird.

You can hold 20 yards separation in AH. We tend to see a 10 yard difference in distance from each viewpoint. Sometimes what you think is lag is just changing AOA at different times so you aren't slowing down and speeding up together.

I bet these formations are from the LAN meetings without firewalls and antivirus applications.

The Virtual Blue Angels are over the internet, as they claim.
