Since the Me-109 got a spiffy paint job a little while ago, I thought I would ask that if the art team is bored, heres something for the VVS lovers out there:

And yes, before anyone says it I know it's an La-5 not a La-5FN but it still a whoopee kick bellybutton paint job!!!!!!!!!!

Very cool, and I guarantee you we are not bored in the art department. We've got lots and lots and lots and lots of work to do. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

We won't change the La-5FN, but we haven't done a La-5 yet. I told Superfly he should get that for a tattoo. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Drat, oh well I tried. BTW I don't think anyone wants to see La-5 modelled, frankly compared to the La-5fn that replaced it the La-5 sucked badly. It isn't by accident that everyone ran to Yak-1's until the La-5FN came.

Sorrow,
The La-5 may not be the beast the -5FN is, but it was still competitive with the Yak-1, as well as the Yak-7.

umm, don't know much about soviet fighters, now tell me the main differences of La-5 & La-5FN ?
Thx!

janneh,
La-5 was powered by ASh-82A with max output of 1700hp. Has a raised rear fuselage, ala Spit, 109. First saw combat at Stalingrad.
La-5F was powered ASh-82F, which had same output as ASh-82A, but offered improved performance above 5000ft. Rear fuselage was cut down, incorporating a bubble canopy (this change was standard for all subsequent versions of La-5). -5F was built simultaneously with the La-5FN, because development of the ASh-82 radial was an ongoing, and uncertain, process. Saw combat in early to mid '43.
La-5FN was powered by the ASh-82FN with a maximum output of 1850hp. Was nearly 400lbs. lighter than previous La-5s. Came out at the same time as the -5F.
La-7 powerplant was unchanged, but the La-5 shape was aerodynamically refined, and lightened by a further 300lbs. In 1945, some aircraft were equipped with three 20mm B-20 cannons. Saw combat in mid 1944.

Leonid;
Thats funny, most of the stuff on the La-7 I saw when researching the La-5FN said the La-7 was in combat by late 43.
