Lyric1 found me this photo of a very brightly coloured Sopwith Camel. 3 RNAS painted many of their Camels in gaudy schemes while forming in England. They kept these aircraft once they crossed the Channel in January 1918 but in March inherited 8 RNAS' more powerful Bentley engined Camels. These were a lot more normal looking.
I've gone for yellow and red for the stripe colours on my skin. The darker stripe looks the same shade as the red on the rudder and the lighter stripe is lighter than the blue on the rudder. Black and yellow also suggested itself to me, like a wasp. The symbols on the wings are Tudor Roses.

Your work is great. I want to thank you and the other artists who create skins for everyone's use.

Simply amazing!
<S>

LMAO that is great!
-
I'll fly it Greebs! :aok
-
That turned out sweet love how you did the roses. :aok

Oh, just a second I...
ow...
OW...
OUCH!!!
Okay, there, my eyes stopped bleeding and I can see the plane now. :aok
I have a feeling it will be much used! That's the reason I fly the coral sand P-39, because "I might go down, but I'm making the eyes bleed on the guy who kills me!"
[edit] P.S. For those that don't understand, that's a joke. It's a well made skin. I'm making fun of the guys that chose those colors in WW1, not of Greebo.

Hate to burst your bubble on your coral sand P-39 I sent off a photo to Rogerdee that I found of that plane & a profile that matches it. So it might be in for a new coat of paint soon.

That's a shame. I know they had that coral pink for P-40Es as well. I picked it for the eyebleed quality :)
Then.... it kinda grew on me!
It's my second favorite 39 skin!
Oh well.
EDIT: er... uh... back to WW1 now!

FYI: Bruce Campbell is one of my fav B-list actors!
Also, I'm not saying we have coral camo P-40Es in game. I'm saying they had them in WW2. No bubble to bust on that one. It was a color they used in limited numbers and in specific roles sometimes, but they used it. Not to mention you showed pics of P-40Ns, not Es.

I think I have E's as well :P

That's beside the point. Showing the presence of sand-colored P-40Es doesn't negate the presence of coral-colored P-40Es. One was definitely more common than the other, to be sure. Doesn't mean one precludes the other, or vice versa. You miss my point.

Got ya. :aok I need to stop as I have completely hijacked Greebos Camel.

I once hijacked a camel. :noid

Lyric PM'd me some suggestions for this scheme which led me to make some changes to it. The outer struts in the photo appear to be a lighter colour, so I've made them yellow and the area around the serial number appears to be a heraldic scroll rather than just a gap in the yellow, like I had it before. Also I have changed the stripes to black as in the photo they appear to be a shade darker than the red in the centre of the roundel. I prefer them in black anyway, and the wasp idea makes sense to me.

Sid kindly PM'd me this new info on this scheme and I've redone the skin to match. The stripes are now green and light grey, while the cowling is a mid grey rather than blue. I made my stripes a bit darker than the profile, as that seemed to match the photos better. I've redone the roses as well.
Its a lot less colourful now, but it seems a more likely this scheme would have been allowed at the front line than the red and yellow or black and yellow schemes.
