Anyone here buy their computer through EBay??
If so, how was the transaction and quality of machine?

I have not but can only recomend the old adage "buyer beware" when dealing with purchases via an online auction (Ebay inthis case) oe even in a real life auction.
Who would you return the PC to for repair? Warranty work? Will you really get what you think you were buying, etc, etc.
Just be cautious and get very specific in what and who you are dealing with.

As far as e-bay goes, I've bought a number of items through there and so far have had very good luck.
On the other hand, a friend of mine bought a turntable and is going through hell because the seller was a) slow to ship, b) packed it poorly, c) underinsured it, and naturally d) the post office crunched the box and ruined the turntable (bent spindle) and a dinged base.
The guy that insured it is the payee (not my friend) and the box and contents have to be shipped to the originating post office to file the claim. He is now two months from having paid for it and is just beginning the claims process. My guess is he won't have anything for months more. I've tried to get him to demand his money back from the seller but he seems fine with just going this route.
At any rate, on ebay you are dealing with individuals (for the most part) and really have no recourse except to write a nasty feedback if they screw you. If you pay by credit card you have some protection and the seller is also generally a company then. If it is an individual, make sure you discuss shipping damage and what warranty if any will apply - can you send it back and get your money back if something doesn't work or gets cruched during shipment.
All that said, one thing to keep in mind. You get what you pay for. Even buying from a company, if you buy the bargain basement box, you will get cheap knockoff parts, maybe relabelled RAM, little or no support, etc. Get familiar with the FCC website and how to track down manufacturers using the FCC ID on the various cards. That way you can maybe get driver updates, etc.
I've had to help friends who bought the bargain basement junk and I have quit doing it (unless she is really cute (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)) just because it is such a pain in the ass.
Spend a little more if you can and get good name-brand stuff. In the computer industry, it really does make a difference. Maybe not when you open the box and plug it in, but it can make a huge difference once an incompatibility shows up after installing some new program or driver.

I just built my box, and used e-bay for a few "low-ticket" items and saved some dinero. I bought: (approx retail price in parentheses)
Diamond Supra Express Modem $28 ($55)
Diamond MX300 Sound Card $20 ($30)
Labtech C324 Headphones $8 ($30)
KVM switch w/cables $12 ($35)
...no problems with any of the gear; in fact all of it was brand new. The key for me was knowing the prices of the item(s) I wanted (I saw many people bid prices higher than they would've paid retail), patience (started picking up some of this gear 2 months before the actual build), and finally assessing the bio of the seller....I only bid with people who had a long, positive history.
The major gear, i.e. motherboard/ram/hdd/cdrw/cpu/video I purchased from established retail merchants. I researched merchant histories via resellerratings.com

From all the things I have read on th e web about auctions the only safe one is ONSALE which is now owned by egghead. They have the most secure sight, never heard of them being hacked into. Also when someone does a customer wrong they no longer can sell thru them. I have had good luck with them bever once a bad item even though most is refurbished.

No, and do yourself a favor and don't do that. Any PC on eBay thats not from a reputable seller who has been selling PC's for year's means its a used machine more than likely. Just goto iBuyPower, Cyberpower, DigitalStorm, etc. and get a build that meets your budget.

You can select the items you want inside the box for them to build. They did a fantastic job, all the cables were dressed out very neat for max airflow. The build time was very fast along with free shipping. I would buy from them again. They are very professional to deal with and will answer any questions you may have over the phone.
