Title: Favorite kills
Post by: grizz441 on May 04, 2010, 02:51:37 PM
When the planets align for those kills that you are glad you had the film running for.  Lets see them.  (Trim down first please)

Since it's my thread I get to post 3.   :neener:  (As always with Muppet films, right click, save link as)

This one is just hilarious, the G14 follows me through the carnage only to compress and auger at an 80 degree angle.  Just watch the six view after I pull out on the deck.   :lol

Muttley makes one heck of a lawndart!!!   :lol

EDIT......

Is it sad and pathetic if I can't recall a fav?  I enjoy most kills thoroughly, but every now and again I'll get into it with pacerr.......  Kill or be killed, it's usually a nice time.

Nice Grizz...I expected a longer list but...  :lol

I have only one...may never get repeated unless I get very lucky. Shuffler in his P38 deathstar...after having my butt handed to me a few times, I used a squad mate as bait (he didn't realize it)...caught Shuffler busy BnZing my squad mate and waited for him to make a pass...as he was moving to go vertical I made my move just early enough that I would get a high 6 shot on the fuselage and keep enough speed to get away if I missed since he would be near stall and moving to nose down.

Offered a salute and he replied then logged off. I should have filmed that one.

As an aspiring tater slinger, I was proud of this setup I had the other day. Usually it doesn't go this well :)

My favorite kill of all time was probably in 2000 and it wasn't me that got the kill.
I got a buddy to try the game, we bumbled around a bit I think ran into some other planes but nothing decisive. The first plane he really mixes it up with on his first fight he shot down. And it was Hangman. I told him on channel 1, Hang, you were Sodas first kill, congrats. I don't think that Soda understood how long he would wait for his next Hangman Scalp.

Haha, I have only had two favorite kills, both of which I have no tape of.  One of them was like 4 years ago when I shot Betty down in her Typhoon-O-Death.  Another one was the first time I shot 999000 down because he is like a sniper with those guns on his bomber lol.

End game of 38J vs G14 fight where a last ditch differential power hammerhead, by the grace of God, took his wing off (although the current film viewer doesn't show the wing coming off).

I wish I still had the film, but it was a long time ago in a flight sim far away.  In fact it wasn't really a kill, but an assist.

Longbow Scenario in Airwarrior.  First time I ever GL'd a group.  I had 602 Squadron Spitfire IXs.  This particular frame we had the job of being the rear guard to RAF B25s escorted by P47D-11s coming back out of France.  The map was historical and we upped out of Tangmere and formed up crossing the Channel.  Del was flying my wing for I think the first time in a scenario.  as we crossed the French coast we spotted the 25s outbound.  shortly after this we got calls of 109s and 190s.  My squadron got broken up in the initial mix up and Del and I ended up a flight of two.  We then got a call of a straggler 25 single engine trying to make it out.  We headed down the coast.  We spotted dots in the distance as well as the smoking 25 that crossed below us.

Turning towards the dots we saw a D-11 with a 109G on it's tail.  We're closing, but too slow as they are moving away from us.  I'm hollering for the guy to break back towards us but he doesn't seem to hear.  Del's reminding me we've got to watch our fuel for the trip back across.  I'm still yelling at the Jug driver.  Finally he breaks and allows me to fall into position for a shot on the 109.  I get close enough and see strikes.   The 109 realizes he's in trouble and breaks hard and I can't finish him.  Del, who has been covering my 6 the entire time swings out and powders the guy.  The Jug races for home as we rev back for the coast.  High dots are spotted closing from the East.....

It was the first time I encountered the real power of these flight sims for a history junkie like me.  I was in the cockpit as far as my imagination combined with the history could take me.  It was an amazing feeling to step back in time to the summer of 1943 and be that close to my hero's, if only in my mind.

I've been searching for that same feeling ever since.  I find it, just often enough to keep me around :)

This started out as a pretty hairy, knock-down, drag-out fight.  I was in some pretty dire straits, until I remembered...

"Use the force"...  I concentrated my thoughts, and gave him a concentrated "mind-burst".  No conventional ammo needed...

Whenever I meet up with Sads we tend to have rather long drawn out fights and I think the result is about 50/50. Winning any of those is good fun.

It was a beautiful, 850 yard deflection shot...

An enemy Typhoon was after a friendly P-38, the P-38 diving, trying to escape.  I roll my Mossie and plummet down after them, the ground forces the P-38 to pull up and the Typhoon begins to pull up as well, I can see the P-38 doesn't have long before he is eating 20mm rounds.  I pull lead on the Typhoon, pull the trigger and unleash the hose of fire from my Mossie's nose.  850 yards downstream the 20mm rounds slam into their destination, tightly clustered and in huge numbers......right where the pilot's center pod sits on the wing between the twin booms of his P-38.....

As my Mossie tears apart due to the wonders of killshooter I watch the Typhoon's much more hostile 20mm rounds do the the P-38 what my rounds would have done without killshooter.

It seems when diving the drop on rounds is a bit less.

I do not have the flim for this, but SHawk does, and I can't get him to send it to me. :devil

But owning his C-hog in a P-39D in the DA tops my list.  There's been a lot of lucky kills and lucky shots over the years, but none that hold the weight of killing SHawk's perk ride with a 39D.

And no,  no one cares what happened the next 10 fights SHawk  :lol

I think if he would have gently pulled or stayed level he may have been able to land it.  The quick G load probably snapped the parts.  I will leave it to the experts to decide whether it was a before or after hits plane shoot down.  Took me about ten minutes of watching his racetrack like run through friendlies to find a good "ambush" spot.

To me the scenario's always stand out a bit in a couple of ways. Obviously you have the added factor of historical immersion and (to some measure) match ups. Add the limited life and the context of a true mission environment and it changes the equation significantly in the sense that you didn't get to pick the circumstance or the plane. Combine that with a few chances to fly the A-20 recently in two and it yielded some excellent adventures. Two tend to stand out a bit. Both clips are a bit long for context.

The 1st is from Rangoon, after winning frame one handily we were having tremendous difficulties in frame 2. The forces of the frog had completely avoided the scouts and we left blind with only the 1 scout left. I was forced of the buff stream long before I ever got near enough for a visual and dogged by a lone zeke. So it sets up an interesting match up, I've already engaged multiple cons have some measure of damage (both main gear shot out) and am last man standing (for scouts). If I rtb we lose best chance to catch a glimpse of buffs while inbound, if I engage and lose we're out of scouts altogether for the frame. To me the mission and circumstances make things somehow different...
http://www.az-dsl.com/snaphook/Rangoon/frame%202/flamingriceball.ahf (film is 11 min or so with most of action in last 3-4 min...)

2nd is the single flight/fight/film that stands out the most in my 15+ yrs of this. This is frame 1/flight 1 of kruppsteel, we're tasked with ground support for our armored force. This one opens with an incident that ruffled some feathers on the other side. As per scenario rules I'm not allowed to drop bombs on enemy GV's. I notice a Tiger in an ambush spot thats apparently unseen and use my eggs to mark him for the guys on the ridge above. This is probably the most immersive flight I can recall since the entire furball is mission driven on both sides with attack and fighter cap intertwined. The end here has always stuck with me, I wonder how many pilots on all sides died "after the fight was over" entirely due to dropping there guard for just a second. Even worse fighting a plane thats almost flying and trying to sort out what controls still work 200 ft off the ground....

I like it when some random friendly HO's another random plane in space. The freindly blows up and takes off the wing of the enemy. They crash into the ground and give you a proxy!

As of now im going to start a HO Coalition (< I lol'd) to get me some more freebies.
