My son's 16 and I'm really getting him interested in the service, He's down to either the Marines, or Navy Seal, i told his grades matter alot to the Military so hes got to do better than Average if he wants to go to either of those branch's of the Military, Good luck to ya, remember the country's behind ya :salute

I love my new unit. When I got here the Division CSM gave us a long speech about how this unit is the most deployed unit in the Army and how we are making history. Coming from a military family I know the life was gunna have its down times, but I mean where else will I be able to shoot MGs and grenade launchers....while getting payed to do it :D

Hey Junky
I would have always preferred to have spent a month in indian country, than 1 day of an IG inspection.. Take your CSM inspection, and multiply by a factor of 10.. Geez, talk about anally retentive, OMFG!!! Life is alot easier when ya go to the PX and buy a complete TA50 set, brand new! So you have your issue set for the field and general duty, and a perfect set for inspections. (same with your boots) Improvise, adapt, overcome! ;)
I look back now (WAY back), and it almost seems like another lifetime ago.. Still have some of my old field equipment tho, memories!

Having a set of equipment for go and another for show has been done all the way back to the Romans probably. Just make darn sure your go set is complete and fully servicable.

Don't worry, when you get in country. Pending on the Unit, you could be on the ground running for weeks on 2-4 hours sleep a day!

I remember back when I was in some butterbar called me out for not saluting. I was just exiting a store and my eyes didnt adjust to my putting on sunglasses. Never saw his rank, that and usually in the BX area under the overhang most people were pretty relaxed on the saluting. This guy wasnt. "Hey Slick" he says, " Dont you salute officers?". I saluted and walked away thinking to myself 4 yrs of this crap will be enough for me. We had a few good Lts in our squad, but in my book I never respected after that..I simply ENDURED all the youngster officers.
"Hey Slick this mf"
Hehe..all these years and still bitter.

I can say I have had 1 horrible LT, and 1 good LT.......the difference the horrible LT liked to try to train us alot, the good LT lets his NCOs do the job :aok
