Looks like a significant weather event is shaping up for Monday. From what I'm reading there is going to be a large tornado outbreak effecting most of Oklahoma and parts of Kansas. Just a heads up :aok

Man, this time of year they're a regular occurrence. You can't really spend any time being worried about it of you'll just have to spend the spring and fall hiding in your bathtub with a mattress on top of you. They happen in the spring and fall, period. The odds of a tornado hitting you or your house are pretty spectacularly low actually. The severe storms do their share of damage, but that's just something you have to live with if you live in this part of the world. The only thing I really worry much about is the hail. That stuff will tear your car up in a bad way, and I don't have a garage.

My point was Monday is shaping up to an extraordinary day. From what I'm reading it may be on par with the 1999 event and I'll take some hail over EF-5s any time. :aok

wow thats some pretty intense CAPE. Definatly going to be something to keep an eye on.
Man that makes me want to make the drive up and chase em :rock

Hehe lucky. I'm just 18 and trying to learn as much as i can from books.
I know I don't know enough yet to go chasing safely but its a goal :cheers:

lol everybody knows oklahoma people cant read or do anything productive for that matter. atleast thats the word down here in texas.

When i was down in OK last time it was in (1999? going from memory) for the tornados that hit OK City and namely Moore. I was sent down there for work ( Large Loss Insurance adjuster ).
For all you folks down there i just want to say that you have one beautiful state , and the people i met were amongst the nicest that i have ever met.
Funny, i was talking to my wife just the other day about where we would like to go when we retire. The choices are narrowed down to Montana and OK.
Stay safe guys!!! While id like to visit again, i dont want to do it at your expense, Ive seen those things do some horrible things!! :pray

It's funny, right after the movie Twister came out, when people found out I was from Ok, they wonder how you can live there, like you are dodging tornados on the way to work every day or something.
Fact is, Oklahoma has the most tornados per square mile of any part of the world and still you could live and die there without ever seeing one.

That giant one that went through OKC and leveled Stroud just petered out finally a few miles from my house at the time. Never seen anything like that one, but then I don't think anyone ever has. For some reason they just about never seem to come through Tulsa proper, they nearly always seem to divert around or peter out as they get to town. I've only ever seen two in person, though I've been out in a few storms here that would make your heart jump up in your throat. Keeps it interesting I say.

That giant one that went through OKC and leveled Stroud just petered out finally a few miles from my house at the time. Never seen anything like that one, but then I don't think anyone ever has. For some reason they just about never seem to come through Tulsa proper, they nearly always seem to divert around or peter out as they get to town. I've only ever seen two in person, though I've been out in a few storms here that would make your heart jump up in your throat. Keeps it interesting I say.

I was in second grade hiding in the basement with my family. Still remember the sounds of our house being destroyed. The whole phrase "looks like a war zone " sums it up. Tornado's are something to take serious hail will dent your car a tornado will crumple it like a can and drop it in the next county.

They certainly are devastating, especially when you consider where the rotating winds originate. Tornadoes are a direct shaft to the lower stratosphere.

Oh I am not disputing that tornadoes do much much more damage and are catastrophic. My point there was that hail comes down over just about the entire city, while the odds of a tornado hitting your house or car in particular are not very high. You are very unlikely to get damaged by the tornado, very unlikely, however if it's hailing, you've very very likely to take damage from that.
Now if you do happen to get hit by the tornado, well, that's a different story entirely, and one that it sounds like you know. I'm glad you guys made it out ok.

I was told that being on the east side of the Arkansas River helps prevent touch downs in the Tulsa metro area. But then again Im not sure how much truth there is to that. I have lived there for almost 30 years on and off and never seen one hit the city myself although some have been very close. I just recently moved to Jenks (west side of the river) so Im hoping nothing heads this way.... :uhoh

Yep, I live right across from the golf course next to RL Jones. I still go running into the yard to take a peek when I hear that thing flying over the house.

Just a this past fall I got some pictures of the B17 that flew into there as well, so that kind of thing is worth keeping an eye out for. That's a nice neighborhood back in there, a friend of mine used to live in there.
