Title: Aces High Review @ SimHQ (Zero shots, new feature info)

 http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/reviews/aceshigh/ (http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/reviews/aceshigh/)

Comments, feedback, hate mail, fan mail, good stock tips, etc. always welcome.

Writing this review was the toughest thing I've done for SimHQ, because I've come to know this community and its attention to detail....hope I did it justice.

I think the review is fair and positive.  Be curious to hear what y'all think.

Hi spoons....

Great review..<salute>

IMHO, I thought you were objective, very thorough and it is fair assessment as to the current state of AH.

I especially appreciated you drawing attention to the neon ICON issue and I agree with your conclusion.

Regards,
Badger

Nice article  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

One little tidbit that really suprised me though is....

Quote
The other new feature being worked on is a Mission Editor, due out in version 1.03, which would allow any user to create a mission flight plan, complete with open "slots" for the roles in that mission (CAP, escort, bomber, etc.).  The planner of the mission will set the time of departure, establish waypoints, and then upload it to the main server so those on the same team can volunteer to fly their chosen role in the mission.

This is something I haven't even heard a rumor on yet  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Looks to be a nice feature like the Briefing rooms in AW.

Hi Spoons,

Great review!  You did a fine job of covering all the bases, such that anyone reading it will have a good idea of what AH is all about.  Well done  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Great review, very fairly done!

Along with the above quote, did anyone else catch this?

Quote
The first is a combination of the addition of new, powerful, late-war aircraft and the ability to fly them based on a career points tracking system, where pilots build up their points and prestige by scoring kills.  Because of concerns that only allowing the best pilots to fly the best planes would throw the gameplay balance of the entire arena off, HiTech is planning on a system that punishes your career badly if you are shot down while flying the late-model aircraft.

Kieren: translated, it reads: "You must be at least this tall to fly the cannon-hawg." (or anything with Mk.103s on it, for that matter)

Great Review!

But you didn't mention that the FDB guys like to wear dresses when the fly.
(personally, I am always embarrassed to be shot down by a man wearing pantyhose and a garterbelt.)

Man! I heard Fatty looks stunning in a push-up bra...hope your next write up is a AH  Fashion article.

Great review.

Now JG2 are FAMOUS.

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Power corrupts, and JG power corrupts absolutely.

The only reason I don't shoot down more enemies is because they aren't worthy.

And yeah, when I get shot down, it is because I want to show you plebleians of other squads that I'm "part of the gang".

That's my story and I might stick to it.

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys.  Really appreciate it, and I'm glad you like the article.  It's doing pretty well in the stats today too, so maybe we'll have a few more targets to shoot at soon.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Torque will be unlivable now that he's been featured so favourable in a review of this magnitude. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)

"Torque plays a heavy role in the flight characteristics of all single-engine aircraft, and is very pronounced at times.  It seems appropriately modeled, at least in how it effects the flight model at various conditions."

Also, IMHO, the flight model isn't the hardest to fly. I think (and I know you try not to compare the "other" brands) AW3 FR is alot harder. Alot goofier none the less, but harder.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Great review. I'm sending the link to all my old squadies who haven't made the transition yet.

otherwise great review

P.S. I certainly wouldn't call AW3 's FM's harder but mabye mistakes are more likley to be punished (due to not having that pesky torque etc.)

AW3 FR = Full Realism.
AW3 RR = Relaxed Realism, yes mucho mucho easier. Neither easy nor hard being better. I think AH is closer to "correct" than anyones ever gotten it and their for "better". Of course, all thats subjective and a personal opinion...fwiw.

Lizard I have flown AW since AW4W (whats called AW Classic now) came out on AOL many many many years ago. And all but the first year, has been in FR.

And while it takes time and skill to learn that FM, I have to say that in my opinon, Aces High FM is much more difficult.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I also Verm have flown AW for about the same lenght of time. Mostly RR though, as I found FR not as fun and never could get real good at it. I did fly much more FR in the last year there, and held my own. I based my feelings over better/worse on how well the transition to AH went. I'm much better at AH than AW3FR, and as well or better than RR. Certainly, my SA and ACM have improved dramatically.
I would like to qualify my statements. They are all put forth as my opinion, not as an expert on either FM's or flightsims. I have tried WB only a few times, and that off line.

Hmmm ahhh The HOG in AW was basically untouchable if flown with the minimum smartness...

Ropes without end .. *sigh*

*snif* i want my 4k climb HOG from AW3 ...
