BatfinkV, did it do this before?
-
Just got in and saw the update, downloading it now. What exactly happens?
edit HiRes pack at 40% dangit hurry up :furious
-
Drives around like a helicopter.
-
High angle of attack for level flight you mean, or what? Stall turns?
There are small group of avid mossie fans on the forum, wonder if one of them has tried it yet. I'd like to know what karnak, sherf or thrila think about her for starters. :x
-
To be honest. I have not noticed a significantly different turn/stall behaviour between the 2 versions. But I will take a closer look again.
-
Rgr boozeman.
dang 73%, slow download today for me. The suspense is killing me

From what little time I have flown the new Mossie, it appears to be a little more gentle in the stall. Before the heavy bellybutton end of the plane would point to the earth and you would go in a death spiral. Havent happened to me yet on the new update, but Ill fly it a lot more to get a better feel of it.
-
After taking a second look, the elevator authority incrased significantly at low and medium speeds, so the new Mossie can tighten turns quicker now, but it's also easier to stall her.
I still need to check if the max. turn rate and min. turn radius did change or not.
-
After flying it for a few hours i have to say it's great. The vertical and horizontal moves all feel pretty much unchaged, which i'm happy about. Seems a bit more nippy and able in the climb as you said. The differences in FM are no where near as noticable as the new visuals which are very nice indeed.
-
Feels a lot more responsive at lower speeds, can hold higher AoA at lower speed, better control in the stall.
-
How is the directional stability? Does the nose still wobble all over when trying to make a shot?

Yes, the yaw is still present just like in the older mossie. However, the center of gravity appears to have been corrected and is so much easier to control in the stall.

I had to go to work 25 minutes before the patch was released....
I'll be doing tests when I get home.

ouch bad timing so close! it will be worth the wait though when you get back home. It certainly feels more responsive at slower speeds than it was. I don't seem to have much of a yaw rudder problem on either the old or new mossie, even with flaps out she stays quite smooth. It seems like the engine and aerodynamic makes quite a differnce in attacking fast moving targets that usualy would not be caught. She seems to be a little more sluggish to bring the nose down in stall speed vertical turns but also more stable. Doesn't seem as likey to backflip tail over nose as easily as the old one. Of course the paintjob and 3D model too, it's very good.

My 8800GT died 13 days ago and I still don't have a replacement, so I will have to turn the eye candy down to get acceptable framerates on the old 7800GT I am using until the replacement arrives.
Should still get to see the model, just no shadows and the like.
EDIT:
I made a backup of AH v2.18.8 before coming to work though. I will be composing a detailed comparison between the old and new Mossies some time in the next couple of days.
I get off in one minute, then a 15 minute drive home...

happy days :)
i'll be in the TA if you want to put some holes in me

I can't hold her steady in a sustained turn, though that may have something to do with my stick settings.
I still suck real bad.

quick video putting her through her paces in stability and stall control.
I like!

No WAY the old moss could pull some of those moves. And the off-the-runway nose hang??? HOLY COW!
That can't be right!

Old Mossie could do that too. Any fighter in AH can do that. He kept it low until it was over 200mph before pulling into a climb. Old Mossie might have killed you in the stall though.
EDIT:
Just tested it in the old Mossie and did the same maneuver, but peaked at a lower altitude and the stall killed me.

Krusty, the old mossie had almost the same power to 'hover' but it was alot more likely to flip out in pure vertical stall turns as Karnak said. Another notable moment was the second inverted half roll to emergency snaproll recovery, just after the touch-n-go-U-turn landing thing. That was very close to an auger, the older mossie might not have caught it so smoothly. Tail control authority at slow speeds seems to have been improved. I am no expert on how this all relates to a real life mossie though.
