We had a thread on this last month I believe. It got mixed reviews from us. I liked it, would see it again, but didn't really see what all the Oscar fuss was about. Not as good as I had hoped, but still worth the time to watch. I give it a strong 7.  :aok

I enjoyed it, nothing exceptional but the combination of decent characters and good action scenes kept my interest while the deeper dark side of what the film is saying overall is quite profound of human nature. Would recommend watching it once to anyone.

Its more of a straight up Army recruitment film. It was a good movie though, but Oscar material? nah.

It was one of top rated movies last year, I think it beat Avatar rating wise.

Very entertaining, pretty gritty with good characters. Sometimes unbelievable.

I've now seen 3 EOD's review it and say it's a work of fantasy.

Nevertheless, worth a watch :aok

I was hearing a lot about this movie, I heard some mixed reviews so I was curious, but then I remember hearing of this and decided to trust my favorite critic afterall and will wait to see it on dvd or TV: http://www.ahlanlive.com/19458-hurt-locker-producer-banned-from-oscars  Was big news here in town for a couple of weeks before the Oscars.

I liked it, the guys who been combat deployed in my unit....didnt.

I like the line just before the E-4 gets shot.

"We got 3 Infantry platoons behind us, all they want to do is go haji hunting." Not exact but that motivated me as an Infantrymen :D

My friend does what they do in the movie in real life (although I certainly hope he's not so cavalier!)

I have no idea what he would think of it, but I thought it was a very good film, and oscar-worthy.  It's worth your money.

Meh - I thought it was a little boring...the only time it looked like it was going to get interesting was when they met Ralph Fiennes and the British mercs...but that only lasted a couple of minutes

Well tronsky, I really dont know why the director made those mercenaries acting like idiots. In the middle of nowhere, without any defence perimeter, they got shot like turkeys. Probably she wanted to make those contractors act like dweebs.

Those dweebs had a barrett, but sucked with it lol

Oh, one of them actually tried to use the Barrett, he raised his head and got shot.
One heck of a sniper, indeed

It's out on DVD and pay per view already...been out for a month. If you like action movies it's good, just don't go looking for much accuracy.

The Hurt Locker's main theme is how combat can become addictive like a drug. The leading character is a bomb disposal "war junkie". The whole movie is centered around that. It's a perspective on the psychological effects of war that has rarely been touched on before by the film industry. A well deserved Oscar winner.

You may be right, but then again film about day to day struggle of some  ghetto welfare fat slob took just as many maybe even more Oscars. Or Sandra Bullock's movie, Jesus Christ it seems like all it takes to get an Oscar(s) is shoot a movie about racism.

"The Blindside" Sandra Bullock's movie.......was a great movie. Sandra Bullock deserved every award she got for that part.

I watched it last night while waiting in Iraq for a flight to Kuwait. The scenery and the scenarios happen before in Iraq for sure, but the way it was portait in the film is not what really happens here. It's very holywooded!

Honestly i didn't watch it. But let me guess, its about white woman with adopted black kid  has to face  set of challenges to overcome while dealing with prejudice white and black comunity, am i right?
Maybe she was great in this movie but it isn't the reason why she won an Oscar.

Racial prejudice was a relatively minor aspect of that movie...

Its been done to death, same story with different actors. It was clear what its all about after watching previews, sometimes its all it takes.

Don't get me wrong -- it's in there.  But prejudice is not the main point of the movie, nor does it take up most of its time.
