Title: Cursor stuck on left screen in 3 screen SoftTH set up
Post by: TheRapier on May 12, 2010, 11:31:30 PM
I have a 3 screen setup that uses SoftTH. With the 2.19 update, my mouse cursor is stuck on my left screen and will barely go to my center screen but no farther. I can move it around normally on the left screen but it treats the center screen as a barrier.

I know of at least one other person who is having the exact same problem, with the same set up. Might be that AH is having a problem with SoftTH?

Thanks!
Title: Mouse cursor problem with new windowed startup.
Post by: Conan on May 13, 2010, 03:56:47 AM
I run a three screen setup via the SoftTH "triplehead" v1.09 rc1 software (description here (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,272318.msg3406356.html#msg3406356)); The new Windowed Mode Login is causing a problem with my mouse cursor.

All is ok until the game goes into full screen mode, then the mouse cursor becomes restricted to left-hand screen only, preventing use of the Clipboard, Selecting load out in the hanger, Saving films , etc, etc, etc.

All was fine with the previous versions.

have you tried the minimise the game - maximise it back trick?

Tried that thanks, still the same.

Conan-

I am also running 3 screens with SoftTH and am having the same exact problem.  The mouse cursor gets stuck on the left screen and won't travel to the other screens, thereby preventing use of the clipboard.  Everything worked perfectly with the previous AH version and the mouse cursor works properly across all 3 screens in windows.

I am guessing it has something to do with the SoftTH video settings not being picked up until after the game loads??

I noticed that previously the AH logo/splash screen would extend to the side monitors and the triplehead resolution was indicated correctly on the splash screen (3072x1080), but now the AH splash screen stays on the center monitor  only and indicates 800x600 even though the "video settings" are set correctly @ 3072x1080.  As soon as the game starts up in the arena, video is set correctly across all 3 screens but the mouse is stuck on the left and won't travel across. (hmmmm...even though the video is spread across the full resolution, the mouse is still set for only 1 screen...meaning the mouse cursor is initialized before the SoftTH settings are applied....hmmmm...OK, gotta get the SoftTH.cfg to kick in first, before the game starts...) ...I need more coffee.

I will fiddle around with settings after work today - hopefully this is something simple like the SoftTH.cfg file in the wrong directory or 2.19 changed or moved the AH executable directory or a setting in the SoftTH.cfg file needs to be changed to work properly with this new version??

Checking the SoftTH forums may dig up a clue, or super-tech-Skuzzy may know exactly what to do, or if we keep pluggin at it one of us may stumble across a solution.

g'luck
TC

Thanks TC, will have a look when I get home.

It would be nice to have an option in the video8.cfg file to force full screen from the start, as it all worked with previous versions.

Title: Re: Cursor stuck on left screen in 3 screen SoftTH set up
Post by: mutha on May 13, 2010, 10:40:53 AM
I'm having the identical problem.

Using SoftTH on three-monitor setup.
AH launches with startup screen in middle monitor.  Cursor still moves across all three monitors at this point.
When I click on an arena I'm taken to control tower, with all three screen views working. However, at this point my cursor is "trapped" in left monitor.

Please fix this as many in the arena are needing me as a target!

Thanks -

Mutha Teresa

OK  this is buggin me, I need to figure this out...  Checking the boards for more info I have noticed a number of posts concerning the opening splash screen.  It seems like it has been configured to open in "windowed" mode to allow people to set firewall to allow AH...I think there's a connection here with the  SoftTH problem, but am not sure exactly why/how.  The first thing I need to do when I get home is maximize the splash screen which according to others fixes the problem..it can't be that easy, but it mayyy  be??  Worth a try.

What has seemed to fix the mouse problems for me:

Maximized the log in screen (tried to play game and mouse stuttered and slide show effect in game)

then;

Returned to log in screen, grabbed a corner and moved window and adjusted the window to a minimized size (by grabbing the sides when arrows showed and dragging)

 :banana: Stutters and mouse problems FIXED  :banana:

I hope this helps!

okay, something is definitely fubar'd here...doesn't matter what you set the video resolution to in the video settings, the splash screen comes up with some off the wall setting.   For example if I set video to 3072x1280 the splash reads: 1032x1254?? wtf?  I reset it to 1024x1280 and the splash reads... 1032x1254.  If you minimize it and then max it the resolution goes bonkers and gets huge!

I'm still thinking the splash screen-minimized-thingy  is whackin things out, but then again, I'm no programmer.  I guess we can only putz through with trial and error till the tech-dudes get around to figgering this out.. :rolleyes:

Have not touched my computer. except 2.19 update and now I'm pinging at 1994-2000 normal is between 64-78 my fps in game is 0 normal is 75-85.
I also get the slow mouse business. The game is completely unplayable. Night before last I was just flyin along having a good ole time.
I had similar experience when I tried the full reflection in the early beta, would knock my system down to 12-25 frames. Still playable though

Speed test to Dallas is normal.

Hope ya get it fixed quick I'm eagerly awaiting 2.19.1

Thanks Chilli, Tried that thanks, still the same.

TC, Isn't the splash screen just showing the size of the current window it's in?

If I stretch it across all three screens, I can get it read almost my full screen (non-windowed) setting (minus the "bordersize" setting from the SofthTH.cfg file)

Doesn't seem to make any difference what size the "windowed screen" is, when the game lunches to full screen, the mouse cursor is stuck on the left screen only.  :frown:

Gotta get u in the game man...... the new Sherman is awesome and doesn't cost perks  :banana:

Did u try to hit the "H" key to toggle mouse mode......   :uhoh  hoping that works.   I fiddled with my settings for hours,  :headscratch: and finally found the trick... hoping that it is just as simple as the mouse toggle key.

Oh, another thing.... I noticed that it was at a certain size that the mouse was freely moving again.... trial and error.  Maybe resize the splash screen ..... very smalll..... very wide...... very tall, etc.  Checking to see if the mouse moves freely after each resize by moving the cursor over the splash screen.

ummm I'm pretty sure the resolution shown on the AH splash screen is supposed to be the res you have the game set at in your video settings, but it seems like its reverting to preset numbers regardless of what the video is set to..

getting back to basics, odds are very high this is NOT a softTH problem since all was fine untill they "improved" AH.  Judging by the number of bug reports, ther's a lot more going on than just one issue and I got a bad feeling this aint gonna be an easy fix and its gonna take while to get it all sorted out..

So, I figured a pretty obvious work around - although its definitely not the preferred solution, the simple fix is: move all the SoftTH files to a temporary folder on the desktop and revert AH back to one monitor.  Sux, but it works and at least we can be in the game untill someone figures out WTF happened!

Only other options are to either spend hours trying to figure out stuff we do not have all the info for or wait it out.

wow...really on top of this...thank you Pyro.   Sorry to hear it did not work Conan...was hoping it was good to go, have not updated yet but will soon to see if maybe it'll work here.  btw goin back to one screen is good except there's still a lot of other stuff, wierd stuff happnin  everything is tiny, planes flickin on and off  vox gone etc etc.

guess we just hold on till all the critters are squashed..

For the moment my work around is: roll back to 2.18 Patch 8 (which luckily I backed-up before updating yesterday), move the Radio and Clipboard (in each of its selections) over to the left hand screen, then update again to 2.19

So now I can at least use the Radio and Clipboard again without having to do everything via dot.commands. You can move your head in the Hanger in order to select anything not on the left screen. Biggest problem for now, seems to be saying OK to "save a film" after a sortie.

I'm sure Pyro will get it sorted soon though.

nah, it is not random or preset numbers, it is the apparently the size of the window.. resize the window, watch it change..  :rolleyes:

the question remains what is the point of the resolution displayed on splash screen if it has nothing to do with the in-game resolution.. :)

BTW, just to mention. if I force it to a single screen and access the clipboard, the range icons can't be set to 15. Well you can set them to 15 but they don't change size at all.

Pretty messed up right now.

Thanks!

Same here - 2.19.1 did not fix it....I'm gonna make a statement that I cannot really back up in program-ese, but I'm pretty confident that the problem with the multi screen setups stems directly from the "windowed"  splash screen.

My reasoning comes from the fact that when the game starts, the splash screen comes on and: the AH mouse cursor appears in the windowed screen and is trapped there (it will not move out of the window, but the original windows mouse cursor appears on the other screens when you try to navigate to them). The Triplehead software does not start up untill after the log on screen, but the AH mouse cursor has already been initialized and set to work within the original winowed screen coordinates, which traps it on the left screen even though Triplehead software has spread the game across all 3 monitors.

I may be full of it, but I am betting pretty strongly that if we could eliminate that windowed startup thing all would be fine, at least for the multi monitor people.

how bout it Pyro, no offense but could we give it a try?  I'm more than willing to deal with any firewall problems the same way as before.  Or at least tell us how to turn it off so we can give it a try?

TC

edit:  there is a switch in the SoftTH.cfg that supposedly addresses this and spreads the mouse coordinates across all 3 screens, but I have tried it a number of times and it makes no difference - the mouse cursor stays where AH thinks it should be.

I haven't downloaded the latest version or the patch yet, but I wanted to add my name to the list of SoftTH users, because while I haven't experienced these issues yet, it's likely I will.  Rapier and Mutha are squadmates and like them, I'm a SoftTH user.  We've all invested in that extra immersion afforded by triple monitors, so it's safe to say that it's important to us to have this resolved.  I currently use SoftTH version 1.08.

I'm no expert, but I think TC's onto something.  I've seen discussions in the SoftTH support forums where other folk have experienced this left-screen mouse issue in other games.  It might be linked to API hooking--I've seen that term used in relation to this.  There are settings in the SoftTH config file that relate to hooking the mouse and scaling its movement.  Given that SoftTH users didn't have these issues until 2.19, it's possible that the Windowing feature might be the cause.  BTW, here's an example of what the relevant mouse switches look like in the SoftTH config file:

doHooking=1
doScaleMouseCoordinates=0
doScaleFromLeftScreen=1
doScaleWindowRects=1
doScaleClientRects=1
mouseXoffset=auto

(That's just an example, not my actual settings...)

The HTC guys are pretty smart, so they probably already know how this works, but I thought I'd just chime in because there may be more SoftTH users out there than first meets the eye, just waiting for the fix.  Personally, I'll wait for a new fix to be issued before I download the game again.

FWIW,

If you auto film, has anyone figured out how to move the save film dialog to the left screen?

I have spent some time searching over at the Keygens (SoftTH) forums and yes, apparently the mouse-stuck-left-screen-thing has occured in other games as well.  The hook settings changes that were recommended appeared to work in these games so I changed the settings as suggested, but no dice.

I am beginning to think that my previous rant about what may be causing this could be a bit off target but what keeps naggin at me is 2.18.8 had no problems and worked without issue with SoftTH, so one (or more) of the 2.19 changes obviously jacked it.  There is also something wacky with the new splash screen and the resolution settings and attempting to minimize/maximize/re size the window...I can say from a LOT of tinkering around with it that it definitely ain't working right.  Exactly what is wrong and how to fix it is beyond my ability (unless I get lucky and stumble onto some change or setting that happens to work which I will post immediately)

I am able to play in triple screen using dot commands, but without the mouse or access to the clipboard I am pretty hobbled with what I can actually do.  Hope someone figures this out soon...

Apparently the clipboard returns to where ever it was the last time you opened a particular menu choice. So if you single screen and get it to the left, opening any menu item can put it back out of reach on the right.

It can drive you right around the bend to have it suddenly zing off into a space you can't reach  :huh

Hoping this all gets fixed soon.

Thanks!
