Title: Extremely poor initial frame rate/mouse lag
Post by: Karnak on May 14, 2010, 03:24:19 PM
When I launch AH v2.19 or v2.19 p1 after initially having normal frame rates/mouse control I get extremely poor framerates when the clipboard appears, on the intro screen this seems like mouse lag but I think it is frame rate issues.  By carefully and slowly using the mouse, it updates position once every 1-3 seconds, I can launch into the game, I use offline for this purpose, where framerates are indicated to be 0fps.  After careful use of the mouse as before I quit out to the intro screen and my frame rate/mouse control becomes normal.  I can now go into any arena and will be getting 50-60fps.

If I close AH completely I have to go through that process again.  It is the only work around I have found.

Windows XP Pro.  I recently restored my system so it is not an up to date WinXP either.  Something like service pack 1 level.  Video drivers were installed a couple of weeks ago though.  7800GT video.

Bumped this because with the latest patch the mouse lag is back on the start up screen...at least for me.

60fps on the start up screen, so its not related to poor fps. Its a minor thing, but annoying.

Im not sure if this will help, but I noticed that taking off ALL advanced graphics for a few seconds and then reapplying them, can work. It is hit or miss though, about a 4:1 ratio of work to not work. Not sure if this'll apply to everyone though.

LOL...splash screen on my system now shows 30fps to start and it never goes above 41fps. Go into the game and I get 59-60fps in the arenas.  :headscratch:

Mouse does seem a bit sluggish on the splash screen and arena menus. After I'm in an arena no problems.

Same.  Mine drops to 40 ish from 70 when flying.

Doesn't make sense that the splash screen would kill fps like it does.

The frame rate is capped at the opening screen.  With nothing to update on the opening screen, frame rates could be in the thousands and HT wanted to make sure that wasn't causing any issues.

The mouse lag looks to me like it is there until I get into the arena for a couple minutes and it gets everything loaded.  At the splash screen, it's nearly impossible for me to get to the menu items using the mouse stick on my X52.  If I use my mouse, it's a bit better, just requires some finely timed mouse movements to get to the menu items I want.  The funny thing is, this problem was there for me to a certain degree since version 17.  Some patches seem to make it worse, I believe one of the v18 patches made the problem disappear for me, but once v19 went in, it was worse than it's ever been.

Before V19, if I moved the mouse, it just wouldn't update for 3 seconds or so.  With V19, the mouse doesn't actually move except for a fraction of a second every 3 seconds.

So for example, if I moved my mouse 3 inches over on V18, the pointer would stay put on the screen, then after the 3 second 'tick' it would jump the 3 inches to where it was supposed to be.  Now, any motion I get out of the mouse I actually have to be moving it on the 3 second 'tick' for the movement to register, if that makes sense.

Logitech wave keyboard/mouse and Saitek X52 mouse stick both exhibit the same behavior. Windows XP 32 bit.

Wiley.
