The game has become almost unusable after the most recent update. The mouse cursor freezes on the opening screen every couple of seconds. Same jittery behavior within the game itself. If I minimize and then maximize the window it seems to help, but still seems odd and sluggish. Everything was fine prior to the update. DXDiag below . . .

I have the SAME PROBLEM. I tried doing a clean reload of the game, no help. It's unplayable now.

Is it safe to assume you both are running "Version 2.19 Patch 2" and still have the same issues?
-
I am.
-
Much better now on my system. Thanks, Skuzzy.
SKFatDad
-
Gump, what game settings are you using, both in the "Video Settings" and in the "Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced" panel in the game?
-
Have you updated your video drivers as of late? Some vid cards you have to revert back 1 version.
-
SKUZZY: Flew for a couple of hours this evening. Although I am now at least able to fly, I am still noticing some "jerkiness" and an occasional 1-second freeze. Haven't experienced either before. This is with detailed terrain, etc disabled. Prior to the update, I could run detailed terrain and it was fairly smooth.

-
SKUZZY: If it helps, I notice that the freezes appear to take place when someone is speaking, or when certain sounds are playing.

Sorry if this complicates things, but I noticed in patch 1 once while upping a bomber that when the stall buffet started playing, I would have a quick video 'pause' everytime the buffet noise would occur, however the frame rate display still showed 59. Once I got fast enough so that the stall horn didn't have to sound, everything smoothed out.
I didn't think much of it at the time because of the custom sounds I use, but it may have something to do with these stutters...
-
Tigger,
Custom sounds are higher fidelity than the stock sounds. If you don't have a dedicated sound card or a system with enough on-board resources to play them, using custom sounds can many times cause stutters when they are played. When you come across a sound that always causes stutters, just rename or delete that particular file from your sounds folder so it reverts back to the stock sound. See if that helps.

I understand, but I never experienced this until Patch 1, but because of this I wasn't too concerned about it, but having someone else with similar issues, I thought I'd bring it up as it may well be a patch issue more so than a system issue.
What surprised me the most, is that my FPS never dropped below 59 while this was happening. Usually, when I *DO* have system resource issues I will see it drop to 35-40 while stuttering happens. This time it stayed pegged at 59 during the stuttering.
-
Tigger...new sound system in game...caused vox issues...custom sounds, maybe bad format, maybe some incompatibility.
-
Yeah gyrene, but they backed that out in Patch 2 to work on those issues.
-
Not entirely...the Miles system is still part of the program even though some components may not be active.
Is all the new except for 1 file, have it isolated to about 15 lines, but quite frankly we are clueless why. After 2 days of looking, decided it was working in this mode, so ship it and find the problem Monday.

this "pause" in mouse movement and game play begins from the moment I bring up the game window and try to click on "play online"
-
Same here guy's . With that last patch my FR went from 70 to 17 ???? With no change in setting's . Keep playing around with it and got it up to 30 now and that's as high as I can get my FR to go now ?errrr
-
just updated drivers for my NVIDIA 6600 LS. Seems to be working so far....
-
nope. cursor still pauses ...still can't play
-
I assume you have "Detailed Terrain" disabled and are not forcing any type of anti-aliasing to be done as well?
A DXDIAG output would be helpful. Please consider emailing it to me.
-
this has nothing to do with IN GAME settings. From the second I click the AH shortcut on my desktop and bring up the game menu..the moment the mouse cursor passes over the game window..it pauses...then pauses again. If I bring up the game the pause every second or so continues. even if I bring up a plane that plane's peformance pauses.
I've loved this game, but I DON'T GET this. I may be out after all these years.
-
Ok, sounds like you are not running the latest release of the game. The latest version is "Version 2.19 Patch 2". Check the upper left corner of the screen for the version number.
Also, make sure you have the "Maximum Texture Size" in the game's "Video Settings" set to 256 with no anti-aliasing.
Next, you need to make sure your computer is running clean. Your CPU is a little on the low end side and the video card is low end. Please review this post (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,71591.msg2354287.html#msg2354287) to make sure your computer is running clean.
-
Skuzzy setting it to 256 and getting rid of anti aliasing has seemed to solve the problem in the game menu..gonna try to play now and see what happens.
