That totally sucks.
Man i'm bummed.
Was flipping channels last night and VH1 was doing some "best of" rock song garbage and I paused and watched Dio and Sabbath doing Heaven and Hell and was thinking "man, Dio is looking old..."
Stomach cancer from what I just read. How horrible.
-
Man that's terrible. One of my favorites defenitly.
-
Mob rules was an awsome album
-
I met him in a Mexican restaurant in Columbia Mo. back in 1990. I bought him a beer and we chatted at the bar about the local bar scene for an hour or so. He signed my salad plate and I stuffed it under my coat and walked out.
Several years later my wife found the plate in an old box and put it in the dish washer :cry

RIP DIO!
We lost a rock legend today! :rock :cry

Just saw this... RIP.

I read about his passing on www.talkbass.com............. ...........Its truly a sad day.
-
playing nothing but dio tracks tonight.
"Hanging from the cobwebs in you mind, it looks like a long, long way to fall!!!!
No one ever told me life was kind, I guess I never heard it, never heard it all!!!!
Living in a world of make believe, I can hide behind what's real!!!!
But wearing your emotions on your sleeve, and they all know what you feel!!!!
AND HERE IT COMES AGAIN!!!! STRAIGHT THROUGH THE HEART!!!!!!!!!!! "
-
I finally had a chance to see Dio in Heaven and Hell in 2008 during the summer tour of Heaven and Hell/Judas Priest. Dio was great. What I liked about him the most was he was humble and treated his fans with respect. A well spoken educated gentlemen from what I read. God Bless you Dio and be in peace.

RIP Dio

Wrong guy.. Ian Gillan was singer for Mob Rules.. Dio only did one album with Sabbath, Heaven and Hell...

Sucks to hear this. The world is slowly running out of "real" rockers. :rock

I beg to differ and unfortunately Wiki agrees with me. Ian Gillan was later again with the Born Again album.

I gota email the record company that put out the "Black Sabbath; the Dio Years" album and let 'em know that RipChord says that isn't Dio singing Mob Rules...
But seriously, who can mistake who is singing this song.
Mob Rules on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts6YTeSEv0Y)
or this one...
Sign of the Southern Cross YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgjmxYL04V4)
For the record, Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, and Live Evil were all with Dio; he did 3 albums w/ Sabbath.
(And yes I bought all 3 albums when they came out, gawd i'm feeling old...)
Ian only did one album, Born Again, and then left to join Deep Purple again.
(I didn't buy Born Again and didn't really like it that much. it wasn't "sabbath" anymore to me)
Eight miles high and about to fall...

DIO has rocked for a long time.....but now it's time for him to give his cape and sceptor TO ME

LOL, I'm looking at the Mob Rules Album right now, It says, Lead Vocals, Ian Gillan.. Believe it, if Dio did the album, his name would be on it! After all, its about copywrites and royalties on album sales $$$$$..
When I talk about making an Album, I mean virgin material.. Compilations, reunion tours, live albums, or when they are performing old material, doesn't count to me, as "Making an album"...
I have every Sabbath album, from the first album to Mob Rules, 1st Stampings every one.. Still keep em in a peach crate too, LOL!

I still think my ears are ringing from listening to Dio, or is it from my parents yelling to "TURN THAT STERO DOWN!!!!" lol, great guy will be sadly missed.
-
RIP Ronnie James Dio One of the ugliest dudes yet best heavy metal voice rockers ever. I've seen Sabbath with all of the singers. Dio was the singer when Mob Rules was released. Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) did sing for Sabbath ,and recorded 1 album. Mob Rules was released in Oct 81. Gillan did not join band till 83. Dio left because he wanted more control and he had a hissy fit on the way the album artwork looked upon release of "Live Evil".
I guess Dio is now hanging with The Man on the Silver Mountain.

LOL, Holy Smokes  :rofl I'm done with this topic :bolt:
RIP Dio, I'll see ya in hell soon enough!

Werd. Just listen to any track on the album, geesh.
Heaven and Hell. Mob Rules. Live Evil, are the three LP's that Dio recorded with BS.
Ian Gillian did not come around till "Born Again".
The world is full of kings and queens, who blind your eyes and steal your dreams...
RIP RJD. :rock

This is not open to debate.
Just man up and admit you were wrong and lied about the whole "I'm looking at the Mob Rules Album right now, It says, Lead Vocals, Ian Gillan" bit.
Takes all of 2 min to take a picture, upload it, and post it here.
Hell, I bet you never even looked at the Mob Rules album you "say" you have.
Either you are wrong or the whole world is.
You would have to be a tone deaf moron to ever confuse Dio's voice with Gillians.
All ya' gota do is listen to any song off Mob Rules to know who is doing the singing.

I'm betting both...
And if you need another example just look up the film, "Heavy Metal" which is what the song, "Mob Rules" was written for and subsequently made into the title track of Sabbath's second Album with Dio - "Mob Rules".
I repeat what Lute said, There is no debating this. It's akin to saying Bon Scott is singing Back in Black.
-
Looks like Dime, Randy, Cliff and Bonzo just scored the ultimate singer...this is one of the saddest days in metal ever... :cry
-
Pretty good example of how not to make an argument. As right as you may think you are, always leave room for the possibility you are mistaken.
If after saying something like "I'm looking at it right now," when you are actually not and you get called out, you have no dignified retreat.

Maybe now that one dude will go out and BUY some of his music.
The way Ripchord got owned in this thread is epic. This is the sort of reason I still troll this board.

Oh man , I did not know . Bummer .

If I know bonzo like I think I know bonzo.......he's still refusing to play with those guys.

My band had the good fortune to tour with Dio (and Alice Cooper) in the UK some years ago.
He was a real gent, no attitude and would come and hang out with us. Always happy to tell stories and had plenty of time for regular folk.
Best thing is, we opened for Heaven & Hell in Poland last year and he still remebered us. All round decent guy!
He'll be sadly missed.
