Title: Ta152 Fuel Tank Burn Order
Post by: grizz441 on May 16, 2010, 03:57:59 PM
It would be nice if the Ta152 automatically burnt its Aft tank first.  Similarly to how the P51B automatically burns its auxiliary tank first.

I read that burning the tanks in a 152 in a specific order was critical to maintain maneuverability, but it did not mention the order. Does anybody know the order? I've recently been taken with the 152 for bomber hunting at 26k

Aft First.  Burning the forward tank next may or may not help additionally.

Last I checked, it DID burn the aft tank first?

Or was it changed somewhere and I never noticed?

It cycles through.

I have the pilots manual for a Ta-152H and here is what it says for fuel burn.

Quote
Use of the Fuel System:

a) Measurement of the fuel reserve

1.) Fuel indicator at device panel with wheel of selection for foreward and rear fuselage fuel tank (normal position is rear fuel tank).

2.) No measurement for drop tank, additional fuel goes into the rear fuel tank.

3.) Empty drop tank is recognicable by a drop of the fuel level for the rear fuel tank.

4.) Warning for the rear fuel tank at an remaining content of around 10 Ltr., white lamps.

5.) Warning for the foreward fuel tank at an remaining content of around 80 ltr., red lamps. Remaining fuel allows a flight time of 15 minutes at 2500 RPM.

Just from this, I would say it should burn the aft tank first.

I'd guess that's from a Ta 152H-0 manual as there's no mention of the six wing tanks that the H-1 has.

This is a translation from a Ta 152H-1 manual.

Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, but it looks to me like in reality it was impossible to drain just the aft tank if your wing tanks and drop tank still contained fuel. Be happy we can do it manually. :)

Thats what I see too. I just got another Ta-152 manual, but I will have to translate it to see what it says.
