Title: Anyone in London, England area?
Post by: Hoarach on May 18, 2010, 12:40:03 PM
Ill be heading to London Friday through my college where I will be taking 2 classes taught by my professors but using England to teach it.  Going be taking a cultures and history class.  Will be staying at Richmond College and I have no idea in London where that is. :lol

We pretty much have the weekends to ourselves to do whatever and the professors really arent going to be keep a watch on us but rather giving us the free to do as we want while we are in England.  Only thing they are doing is teach the classes for the 3 weeks 9-12 and 1-3 during the weekdays.

I know that we are going to be going to the Tower of London and I believe the War Museum.  The Globe Theater as well but that doesnt really interest me so Im probably going be skipping that.  Also seeing one of the cathedral believe St. Paul's and the castles on the coast

If anyone in the area would like to get together or tell me of some other good places of interest that are worth seeing in London please let me know.

Lived in London until 4 years ago ('bout 50 miles South now)
Imperial War Museum is good but you should get yourself to the RAF museum in Hendon (north London).

Great collection there:

Closest tube station is Colindale (Northern Line) and it's a 15 minute walk from there. Free entry too!

I live about 35 miles from the west outskirts of london. I would not be the right person to take you round london as I rarely bother going there. If ya want to get a 30min train ride from center of london to the country side let me know and I'll grab a drink with you in a nice quiet country pub with real ale and realistic prices.   :)

Do you still claim Budweiser as the "King of Beers"?

But seriously, it depends on which ale, mainly ale is served at whatever temperature the pubs cellar is, hence in the summer, it is served at a slightly warmer temperature than winter. Also remember that Britain is one of the few countries to use warm fermentation to brew it's beer and that warmer beer can be drunk faster than colder beer allowing us more pints/hour than our chillier cousins.

Well i prefer a well poured pint of guinness usualy which should be served warmer than chilled beer but cooler than real ales. But alot of variety in ale out there, some bad some great. Six pints of good guinness is like a three course meal.

All getting the beer so cold does is numb your taste buds as you drink it, so you can't tell how bad it is.  Good beers have flavor and are meant to be tasted as you drink them, so aren't meant to be ice cold.

I stopped drinking because I got drunk one night when I was 19 and crashed my car leaving me in a wheelchair, ever since then I don't drink anymore.

Hendon is cool indeed. I'm off to it's sister museum, Cosford, in a couple of weeks. I'll post some photos when I've been.

I live just outside London, in Essex. My fav place in london is white hall, its where all the govt buildings are and horse guards parade. but for tourists spots, the natural history musem & sports musem is good. London Dungeons is quite good also. go out in the west end for a beer or two and if you can, go on a river cruise.

I know some good clubs and bars if you and your friends want to go!
avoid the stripclubs around soho!

theres an Ice bar in mayfair thats pretty good, glasses made of ice, ice bar and chairs etc etc then pop to china town for a meal..then hit some bars!

That would be pretty cool if could let me know, I know we pretty much have weekends to ourselves and go out in the city to find things to do.  The professors arent constricting us and when were there we can walk as freely as we want.  The weekdays we will be doing work and when there is none we will be going out an about.

This weekend when we first get there we will have both days just to tour the city.

If London's anything like Preston, make sure you use the cross walk.

Looking for some help on this, the RAF museum was mentioned above which I have intention on going this coming Saturday.  Now the question is anyone here familar with the London train service was the exact train stop/destination I am looking for on the train services for the museum.  These UK addresses in London are odd to me.

Btw was able to try several beers/ales in UK and ales first different at first cause of the room temp but will say london pride and spitfire as well was the fish & chips were well worth the money.   :)

At some, if not all Tube stations, you can buy little Tube maps that will show the way. I went to the museum north of London via Tube, got off (don't remember the name) and took a bus the rest of the way.   Was pretty easy... Have fun in London -
