Researchers have achieved success at engineering a completely synthetic organism. Although there are some glitches, the results are considered a landmark in synthetic biology.
It's too bad Michael Crichton died two years ago. He'd have a field day with this one.

Two blue nipples? Yes, that is both awesome AND kinda creepy :bolt:

Scientists in the US have succeeded in developing the first synthetic living cell.
The researchers constructed a bacterium's "genetic software" and transplanted it into a host cell.
The resulting microbe then looked and behaved like the species "dictated" by the synthetic DNA.
The researchers hope eventually to design bacterial cells that will produce medicines and fuels and even absorb greenhouse gases
Cylons are on the way...

Several of the synthesized genes didn't work properly. And the genes that did work didn't do anything particularly useful, at least by human standards. The Mycoplasma bacteria grew, reproduced, and were sure to give Skuzzy a conniption fit, but that was about all.
:D
Hopefully not. This is some interesting stuff :aok

Computer controlled replication...hmmm could be very bad in a few years!

It has been proven that two paper grocery bags and six beers will fix any looks. :old:
