Yeah it would be really neat...if the C-47 had a loading ramp in the back end and the capacity to get off the ground with up to 80 tons...but it didn't.
-
they parachuted in jeeps but like that would help

He must be refering to a C46...... my grandfather flew one in the pacific theater, over the himalayas. He swears to this day, that was the only time he saw 10k pounds of steel Jump 6 inches off the floor. When it hit, he thought that they were going to go down, because of how loud the crash was.
-
Even the C-46 could't carry a tank...or even a half-track. Everything that couldn't be carried on had to be winched onboard. The best it could handle was light artillery.
-
46's and c-47's could carry a jeep.....air drop them.....no-way
1st time U.S. air dropped a jeep (by design) was with a C-119
-
give us horsas attached to the C47s and roll jeeps and the British 6pounder mini tanks as a load out...

Cruiser tetrach or M22 locust, and the Hamilcar glider. The glider was used to deliver the tanks and other heavy equipment to support the airborne.

Are you crazy man? Didn't you see Saving Private Ryan?
FUBAR

ahh yes the 6 pnd tetrarch tank... ty

Whats the point of dropping a Jeep out of a C-47 when you can drop more than 2 troops or 2 supps?
-
I could see the point if we had any advantage of scouting from the ground as opposed to the air.

there is an advantage...used against me and by me. Jeeps as scouts gain the advantage of knowing the terrain and enemy locations, (albeit the eyes in the sky are much better at locating the enemy but not small terrain features such as trees, line of sights, etc.)
-
I'm all for it. You need a manned GV to drive into the C47. Then you get a 2-fer kill when you see a low slow goon flying around! :rock

Ummmmmm..........

With an E-tool?
Ummm.....
Yeah...........
It like........ ummmmmmmm........ sucks, OK?

So you have done some airborne training and have extricated a jeep, dropped via parachute, from the sand with an E-Tool?
Interesting............ :noid
-
Do you think all airdropped cargo floats gently to the ground like the power-ups from Contra?

It does sound pretty bad, but not as interesting as watching a front loader break free from the pallet and
roll around the LZ. Wish I could find that film of paradrop mishaps.

Looks about right :rofl
-
lol why? when has anyone ever been like "oh man were getting tore apart call someone to fly in a jeep from 2 sectors away so we can win this war!",
-
Not going to happen, I agree. More likely it will be "oh toejam , call in some A20's!!!!!!". However, it could be used to create a cache of V supplys in an area that isn't as vulnerable to shell fire (like in the little bowls on some of the burms, almost impossible to get a shell in one of those).
But I agree, it will be relatively useless, and mostly used when troops at a Vbase are down, and its too hot for a C-47 to make it in.

:rofl LOL, it would. But this isn't modern warfare were you can up a C-17 and drop some tanks. The only thing I think it should stay with is the troops, vehicle and field supps. :old:
