Title: SAITEK USB - Flight Controller
Post by: Creamo on April 25, 2000, 08:15:00 PM
Well, I finally put away the old trusty Wingman Extreme Digital 3D and loaded up the new SATAN-Tek USB. Sheesh, Damn thing WORKS! No more bad pods!

Now I have a question er two.

1. Anyone use a profile for AH, or do you just program from within the game? I did it in the game and it works quite well, but would like to know advantage of a profile for the game specific. Adding Mode 2 for Bomber commands and changing gun positions etc... That 2nd hat is great for changing gunner positions.

2. The stick seems a bit sloppy, is there anyway to beef the springs up? (does it have springs?)
Overall it's a awesome stick, but would like a stiffer responce on it.

Ok, was hoping to get a profile for AH sent if anyone has one or tips on programming it.

Going Vmo!

I have one I'll send, but it's designed to be used with rudder pedals so the rudder floppy is used for flaps. You have to make sure you set up AH to look for the rudders you connected instead of using this stick.

Now if you are planning on using the stick rudders then just reprogram the Saitek.

Since AH has the bomber gunner positions improperly set up between different bombers(I've been posting this)I set up mode 1 for fighters and B17, Mode 2 for B26,  and Mode 3 for vehicles. That way my second hat is used to jump around positions.

I'm curious.....

Is anyone actually using the built-in RUDDER of the Saitek X35T in AH?

I've been eyeing this combo, but have always used a joystick with a built-in "twisty" kind of movement for rudder use.  I've got quite adept with it, so I'm a little worried about changing to this Saitek X36 / X35T combo and having to re-learn the coordination all over again.  By the way, I have a very old set of Thrustmaster pedal rudders (the analog ones).  I wonder if they'd work with this setup?

Regards,
Badger

I sent a more complete answer to your post on another thread, but just in case someone drops by here the answer is yes you can use analog rudders with Saitek USB Throttles and Sticks.

Just set up the throttle as a second stick in windows and calibrate. The go to AH Setup Joystick and map the rudder and rudder axis to the second stick you set up as a rudder. More details can be found in the other post.

Thanks for everything Ranger-

This thing is bad-ass. That file you sent really helped.

How I flew without trim on the controller before I do not know. Now a500mph dive in a G10 is easy.

Muuuuhahahahahahaha!

Ooops, almost forgot.

Well, I read all the stuff Ranger Bob said about using TM Analog Rudder pedals. I have a extra CH Products game card I can install, and found the Elites for $68.

Here's my question.

Am I better off spending $100 for USB Ch Pro Pedals....or order the Elites? The Ch Pro's may be a whole lot easier being USB, or not?

I want rudder pedals NOW, so whadda all think?

Sorry for not answering in a timely manner, but I have been away.

I sent the profiles to each of you.

As far as the stick goes It's been a while since I set it up, but now that I think of it I'm not sure I chose analog from the list. I think what I did is to hit the custom button, then choose a 2 axis no button stick, then make sure I had rudder pedals checked and it allowed me to at least calibrate the rudders.

You have to make sure that you don't have any other joystick set up in you selection list with rudders or it may not allow you to calibrate rudders with this new set up.

You may have to play with it a bit, but that is generally what I chose. I have one choice in the list as the Saitek and then I set up the second one as this custom stick. Don't worry if the stick itself does not calibrate, just click or enter past that routine to get to calibrate the rudder portion of the stick. You should see the rudder move in the box.

Good luck

Ok bought it had loads of problems with wierd stuff happening in windows and menus not being clickable in games and was all set to return it after only 2 days, then luckily for me i found an online article on how to set it up correctly and some common problems that may be encountered, this soon sorted all my wierdness in windows and now i am glad it did cos its a great stick combo.
The USB version is a huge improvement on the old analogue stick and as long as you go read up on the following link at combatsim.com i reckon it could save you all a lot of heartache trying to figure out whats happening and how to program it.

Part 1  http://www.combatsim.com/htm/feb00/saiteksge-1.htm (http://www.combatsim.com/htm/feb00/saiteksge-1.htm)

Part 2 http://www.combatsim.com/htm/feb00/saiteksgep2-1.htm (http://www.combatsim.com/htm/feb00/saiteksgep2-1.htm)

Well worth a look it sure shortened my learning curve.

Having said all that i would appreciate this stick file thats being offered as it will save a lot of typing  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

QUESTION:

Will my Saitek USB x36/x35 work with USB CH Pro Rudder pedals?

Will I be able to just plug the CH Pro in and setup the Saitek throt as having no rudder then fly AH?

As i understand it yes, just disable the Saitek rudder control or use for something else, at the moment AH is one of the few games that will detect multiple controllers and enable you to select which to use as rudders.
