It really was enjoyable. Keep your head on a swivel. Several times I heard em before I saw em!!!

Indeed, it's the only place I fly now. :salute

I take full credit. :bolt:

I'd love to see that carried over to the MWA or EWA as well.

Keep that stuff to the AvA please.

I prefer icons.

I don't think there's any serious possibility that no-icons will spread beyond the AvA, Filth.
Hope you come in to see what it's like, though. Could use one of your bomber missions.

Tried it when the WWI planes were in there. Didn't like it.

LOL...buy a bigger monitor and try it again. :D I think Chilli or Chewie (one of the two) uses a laptop...talk about having to be squinty eyed. SA and comms are a must. Adjusting your sounds helps a lot too. Personaly I think a couple of hours in the AvA makes jumping into the MAs a bit easier.

Yayyy.. Compensating "no icons" by turning internal engine sounds down so that you can hear enemy plane approaching from 3 miles away... Now that's realism! :aok

Uh...no, quite the contrary...but think what you wish. I know quite a few people who never go to the AvA that have their internal engine sounds nearly muted and they're not afraid to admit it.

To me it shows just how artificial our perception of ACM really is, huge difference IMO...

It IS a huge difference, one that makes real WWII pilot accounts more comprehensible. Breaking off an engagement can actually happen even if your plane is slower than his. Camouflage plays a real role. The fights and the gunnery are closer, not much 600 yard trick shooting. BnZ tactics work for the planes they historically worked for (apologies for this sentence). So many new things.

I think the no icons is very fun. It only works in the AvA or special events because of planesets. I really like having to get up close to visually identify the bad guy you are facing. I hope it stays a permanent feature and people will come check it out, at least once. Let's see how good some of you ubers really are without your icon crutch. :D The new AvA terrain team is also hard at work at making AvA-only terrains that will be smaller, highly custom & built specifically for the two sided type of play. Give it a chance folks.

mmm cookies...
Viel Glück with your terrain making AvA! It sounds promising.

Thx Kermit. I've got a great group of guys that are serious about it & I can't wait to knock the community's socks off with some of the stuff in production. Will take a little time but well worth it for the finished product. We're trying to make the AvA something really special.

Yeah!! :x
I am really looking forward to seeing the future development in the AvA arena. I was not aware that you were part of the AvA terrain team USRanger until I read this post, but now I am REALLY looking forward to see what's coming! :O
As to the no icon thing I have to say I think its a thrill to fly in the AvA just because there are no icons! And I use a 15" laptop, but I have my engine sound muted to about 37. Always, no matter what arena! Because I've found that to be the best setting for my headset, was getting tired of the constant engine roar at full volume..
The only thing keeping me from having a maximum great time in AvA is the random low framerates I get in there. Sometimes they are too low to even think about fighting, when it is down to like 10frps.. Then I go find me another arena to play in. :frown:

No icons is great fun and the fights can be more intense.
Last night I was firmly in control of a fight with a 109 and I lost sight of him in the terrain because of some low lying fog. Reviewing the film I was only 600 yards behind him when he was lost in the ground clutter of a few buildings. I did not reacquire him until he broke and his planform was showing.
It was a very long 10 seconds.
While no icons has no place in a Main Arena setting it certainly is great fun and an excellent change of pace.
Most people won't enjoy it as a steady diet and some hate it it completely but if you have flown no icons give it a try in the AvA.
