This Tuesday June 1, 2010 the Dickweed Heavy Bomber Group will pay final tribute to VEGA the C. O. of the DHBG. Vega "Stephen Rullman" passed away last Monday May 24th in Reno Nevada. He died of a coronary aneurysm prior to a flight he was to make to California to pick up his Beechcraft Bonanza A33F. He was known by most everyone in Ace High and in his honor the DHBG will be flying a nation to nation memorial flight. The mission will take place Tuesday night in the Titanic Tuesday Arena at 10:00PM EST /7:00PM PST. The DHBG will take off, lock up and circle and do a missing man fly over at a Bishop Field. The runway will be flanked by Bishop fighters of "Rolling Thunder" and "The Devils Rejects" that normally escort the DHBG on Tuesdays. The Bombers will then fly on to a Bishop Field to be announced and any Bishop that wishes to join the group will meet the group in the air. We will then fly at low altitude ( approx 3,000 ft) to the closest Rook Field. We will not fly directly over it, because of the field ack, but fly close inviting all Rook pilots that would like to join the memorial flight to come up and fly with us. The flight will then proceed to the nearest Knight base and the same protocol will be followed. There will be NO shots fired by anyone in the memorial flight. If you chose not to fly with us please respect this brief time that the entire arena can pay respects to this C.O. that has flown online for 13 years as our Skipper and in Aces High since its inception. We look forward to seeing many friends on all sides as we give a final Salute to Vega. Hope to see you all this Tuesday.

Having that many bombers I don't think you will have a problem but when you pass the rook base you know cons are going to shoot at ya. A lot of people don't even watch these boards and I don't recommend to announce on 200 either just takes a few to miss up a great thing and it's bound to happen. I wish you the best of luck and <S> Vega and <S> to you guys for honoring him.
-
if i had the money to pay for online i would definetely be there
i :salute you vega!!

:salute Vega!
My deepest sympathy goes out to your squad, the AH family and of course, Vega's family.
-
I'll be attending, but like TnDep said I would be ready to be fired upon by knits/rooks. It'd be a nice gesture, but it just won't happen I think. It's probably just best to have any knits and or rooks wishing to participate to switch to Bish. I think even squads with strict country policies would be willing to make a short exception for this purpose.

I would hope people would respect the memorial flight.

:salute to VEGA, he was a great man, have know him ever since he started in this game and he was always a pleasure to be around, when I was on the bishops. If I could be there I would change sides to go to the bishops just to fly this tribute but I can't as I have a prior committment on tuesday night.

I had that same thought, but originally I chose not to say anything. But, I will implore folks now to please respect this time in honor of someone who was a positive influence in AH.

I'll get as many AA's as I can to join the flight when you pass said rook base. We'll be actively encouraging rooks to go guns cold for that time. :salute

I would hope people would respect the memorial flight.
EVERYONE who knows about it...certainly will. but as someone suggested...not everyone reads this board...and TT being what it is...I am fairly certain people who do not know will indeed think it's a mass mission and take their shots. I'll be there and certainly inform as many rooks in the air as I can.
additionally...too bad we cannot use the red/white/blue smoke trails that are provided in the training arena.

Maybe one of the mods can type it out on country and not to fire on anyone...... that should cover the ones not reading the forums. Or just take the ability to fire anything for an hour completely out.
Bet there will be at least 1 window licker that will do it no matter what......
-
Why not fly in the Training Arena, thus avoiding the possibility of being shot down?

i'd see this as a good idea but then no one in the MA would understand what was going on

i'd see this as a good idea but then no one in the MA would understand what was going on
I have seen pretty big memorial flights outside the MA.. for a good reason.
IMHO MA is not a very good place for that kind of thing. You can't keep everyone away from shooting down some buffs, and then you have exactly that kind of stuff happening what you really never want to see at such an event.

extremely tight formation of bombers and no one's going to bother anyways. Don't get strung out be yourself hold that formation and you should be alright. Someone record it and post it in this discussion I'd like to watch it myself. <S>

extremely tight formation of bombers and no one's going to bother anyways.
For many players, that's just a bunch of targets waiting to provide some kills. A big, slow darbar attracts attention. And the trouble begins the very moment someone is just starting to shoot.

Of course if nothing is planned for Special Events arena why not do it there?

:salute to Vega I am Sorry For All the Vi's And Vi No 1 Sdrn Would Have Been There If we checked the forums reaguarly our symphanies to his family and freinds We :salute them And Hope they can be brave to over come this tragedy and he is a big loss to online flight sims. my fondest memory is of when i was a rookie 2 years back an still had a numbers name i was rtb in a p47 on fire and he said hey 300 you got a barbie going there where's my invite. i shall always remember that. And may i say i feel like we have lost a family member here.
Also i would like to ask ace high team to make a separate arena with Vega's Best And favourite maps and call it Vega's World.
i would like that as im sure a few other's would aswell :salute

:pray Whenever we pass a cloud in AH, he will be flying with us, along with some pretty good company :pray
:salute Thanks for putting together this final salute.

Salute VEGA, RIP. I was going to the memorial flight but was shoot down near A1 by Sputniks and informed him of what he did, where I was going (DAH), and to read the message board. His reply, ahhhhhh, have AH take my points away. What an A-hole. I wish I could have made the flight. :salute VEGA

Shooter3 shot down 7 memorial flight B-17s (what a jack*ss), other than that, it was very very nice. <S> to the AH community. Will post some nice screenshots tomorrow.

The Dickweeds first overflew Bishop field A6 and did a missing man formation in honor of C.O. Vega. His wife, callsign DRN911, rode as observer in the plane that performed the climb. Two excellent Bishop fighter squadrons waited on the ground and departed after the bombers overflew.
Next stop was A4, where any interested Bishops could depart and climb up to join the formation.
The Dickweed formation and accompanying Bishops flew north through the mountain passes and circled a Knight airfield. During this time several Knight planes joined the flight along with a few Rook planes as well.
It was important to avoid collisions in the formation with opposing team aircraft since these collisions sent some aircraft spinning to the ground. Nonetheless, most pilots fared quite well.
The temptation to thread one's fighter through a formation of tightly-flown bombers was too great for many of the fighter pilots.
The Vega memorial flight proceeded back through the mountain pass at 12,000 feet, circled by Rook field A88 and then returned to Bishop territory, all the time leading a sizeable number of Bishops, Rooks, and Knights. Only two dimwits shot down a substantial number of participants. The rest of the Aces High community "got it". May the dimwits have the wheels of their own funeral processions stolen when their time comes some day, as it surely will.
Upon landing back at the Bishop field, the place looked like England during the war! P-51s, Spitfires, and P-47s lined the runway. Tanks fired salutes. A brave German Arado jet buzzed the field and drew fire from the gunners. The 91st Bomber Squadron parked professionally on the hardstand by the hangars. X.O. Thunder chose to park the Dickweed B-17s along the runway as well.
All in all, we think that Vega would be please with this sendoff that the Aces High community provided. Your response was overwhelming. For over an hour and a half the salutes and words of respect filled the text buffers. A big salute to all of you who participated!
-
Thanks for the excellent writeup PapaFox, indeed, it was an amazing day, Vega would have been proud of everyone who participated (except for the 2 who may not be named)
It also showed that this truly is a community, thank you to all who flew with us.

by the way...for what it's worth.... you cats would have had an additional grouping of 30 or so more rooks at the beginning. we all upped at A88 at 10:10pm expecting to rendezvous with the memorial flight.... with you guys heading westerly from A31...which is where we wrongly thought the flight originated from.
conversely...that seems to be the way it usually goes when the game is normal..and I'm quite sure Vega got a big kick outta that. ;)
-
I am sorry I didn't get to fly with ya'll, We had a lightening storm hit here just before it was to start and I had to turn off the computor. As far as the dimwits shooting at the memorial flight, they knew what was going on as there was just too many people talking about it on text channel. This just shows how far our humanity has fallen, there is no repect for anything or anyone anymore.

My thoughts are with the grieving families and friends. I would be honored to host any memorial flight anyone would like to hold at any time in the SEA so that it does not get interrupted for any other reason then why it is being held. Keep me in mind and send me a message. I can access the SEA on an off event night with advance notice and work on the details with those who want specifics (missing man formation, gun salute etc.) I just ask that for now the discussion on those who were there with other intentions stop. They have had enough "press" and IMHO will feed off any more attention. I am sure it is not what I would want to read if it were my family member or friend and I will try to watch for memorial flights and offer the SEA as long as I have enough notice so let's keep the memory going of our fallen friend and the memorial in his honor.

Vega: is the brightest star in the constellation Lyra, the fifth brightest star in the night sky and the second brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere, after Arcturus. It is a relatively nearby star at only 25 light-years from Earth, and, together with Arcturus and Sirius, one of the most luminous stars in the Sun's neighborhood.
Vega has been extensively studied by astronomers, leading it to be termed "arguably the next most important star in the sky after the Sun."[8] Historically, Vega served as the northern pole star around 12,000 BCE and will do so again at 13,727 CE when the declination will be +86°14'.[9] Vega was the first star other than the Sun, to have its photograph taken and the first to have its spectrum photographed. It was also one of the first stars to have its distance estimated through parallax measurements. Vega has served as the baseline for calibrating the photometric brightness scale, and was one of the stars used to define the mean values for the UBV photometric system.

Thanks to everyone in Aces High II that participated respectfully in the Memorial Flight Tuesday Night. Thanks also for all of you who were not able to make it but have expressed yourselves in this forum thread. I have had the privilege of flying online with Vega as a Dickweed for 13 years. I flew with him prior to that in 305th Heavy bomber Group in War Birds. I have thousands of photographs and screenshots of Vega that I could share. I am including just a few here that bring back found memories of my friend and C.O.

Baumer and all, thanks for photos. Bandit, thanks for the nice words. I also appreciate Thunder showing the non-virtual Vega and doing a fine job of organizing the memorial flight.
Here is a photo I just pulled off the film recorder from the landing field. We had fighters lining one end of the runway, Dickweed bombers lining another portion of runway, and the 91st on the ramp. I caught the Rook Arado doing a flyby with both engines smoking. Vega was quite fond of the Arado and JK of the Rooks deserves a thumbs up for adding this touch to the memorial flight. The airport was a beehive of activity. The image is quite a bit larger than it appears on the forum. Feel free to download and view in full size.
