How do I start?
-
While in the arena you want to start the squad, open up your clipboard > go to O'Club > and click Squads. From there it should be fairly self-explanatory.
-
Good luck with your squad

You have to invite another player und the squad option
BUT thats not all
to create a successfull squadron you need a
- game experience
- a Squadrons Goal (what you wanna go for)
- Website
- own Forum
- a Ventrilo or TS Server
and some more personal abilities like leadership and much more, runnning a great squadron is pure passion

Agree with some of this, the first two points in particular. Build the squadron on the people, their personalities and common interests rather than perceived game skill and it'll go a lot further in many cases.
I think the resources that HTC provides in the way of squad forums here and the built in vox options don't necessarily make Ventrilo, TS vox or a self maintained website that critical from my own experience.

I'll have to agree with Soulyss, I suppose the goal for your squad would dictate if you need a website or separate comms option. Heck, some people might just want to form a squad to fly with some people they know, or just chat with people they know and not even necessarily work towards a common goal. I guess my point it that "success" in this game is very relative to what you're looking for.

I must say, the two most important things i've learned about leading a squad is definitely
and some more personal abilities like leadership and much more, runnning a great squadron is pure passion
and the ability to gain and keep the respect of your fellow flyers. If you earn respect, you will have support, you have support, you gain a great squad full of great people.
Along with the passion you need to have fun. Without fun, no one will want to stay with you.
I need to say though, one does NOT need a separate website or server to have a squad (unless you just want your name even more out there than it is already). My AH BBS forum does the trick just fine :aok We keep in touch and plan training and tactics easily using it
-
Good luck with your squad.....
Pay close attention to Soulyss , 321 , Jayhawk and a few more.
If the fun isn't there.....you'll have a hard time.
-
<S> and good luck
its not easy at first but dont give up. all you need is some heart and dedication to it and it will come around. took me a year to get a good squadron together. now we are going on 4 years old YAY

Aces High is great in that everyone finds their particular nitch in the game. I love bombers, not simply because I'm mediocre to crappy at everything else :D, more because of the history of what they represent. I built a reputation over the years of being proficient at what I enjoy doing in the game, and finally decided to cast the line out there to see who else enjoyed the same stuff.
I'm pleased it worked out so well over the past year. We are a cohesive unit, but we ultimately have fun. That's what matters most.
-
A positive reputation helps a lot. Experience in your particular nitch of the game helps as well. Keeping focus on the "fun" factor is probably the most important, otherwise it becomes bothersome.

Having something in common, or a shared interest outside of the game itself can have a very significant to your enjoyment IN the game, something to hang onto while you go through what at times can be a very long and difficult learning process.

Are you suggesting the 80th has a goal...beyond wrecking P38s? :)

Well that certainly is the goal inside the game, I don't have much desire to go try it for real. :)

Hey FA-Ref! TWC- The Wrecking Crew is welcoming any and all former FAers to join us former FAers while we learn this thing together.
Check us out at www.twcclan.com.
We've already got some numbers and have a strong command staff with lots of wingman tactics experience. Now we just need to learn how to apply it in AH.
-
I remember the Wrecking Crew from Battleground Europe aka WWII Online .... your squad still there? Fun group to play with or against
-
My two cents here is don't try to expand too quickly. It's MUCH more important to have a bunch
of folks that are compatible than to have a huge and unruly herd of individuals. Always try to fly with
potential recruits for a little while before offering the invite. One thing that has always made me cringe
were the Channel 200 and Country Channel invite calls....all that gets you is trouble :D

We still have a few guys in the WWII Online game. Not sure how many are still playing it though. Fun game!

Good Stuff....
If I was gonna start a squad I'd pick Jeff (RedTop)'s brain. Every squad is different and there are a bunch of real good ones (I've been a part of 3 all told 327th, AK, 71SQD) and all of them have a tremendous sense of camaraderie that goes far beyond a given "mission statement". I think that RT has manages to put together about as diverse a group as I've ever seen that somehow is a growing thriving community without the benefit of a website or even a squad night. Yet night/day almost 24/7 if your on 171 your almost never alone...unless your antisocial like me and want to be :noid :O :airplane: :joystick: :D
