Hi Gents:
Loaded "Winamp" today, enjoyed some MP3's, then alighted to the skies. The saga began:
After about 2 minutes of flight, I had NO wind, stall, guns, damage, flaps, gear sounds. Engine continued to sound fine.
After a couple sorties, I hopped onto the runway and my GUNSIGHT was blank. White box,
as though I had no sight loaded.
I uninstalled "Winamp", cleaned registry, removed all references I could find to the
program, still have the same above problems.
Been flying for over a year with no probs, "Winamp" is the ONLY thing I've changed that
would have caused this. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? I'm pretty much a computer
idiot (I did build this box myself though) so I'm real concerned as to what to do....could "Winamp" really caused all this havoc/grief? Help!
Thanks in advance,
MaxQ

Run your virus scanner. You probably have the win95.hybris worm.

I had the same symptoms and that is what it was. I got it from a friend whom I transfered some mp3's and some other programs to my hd from his comp. A version of this worm can infect .exe files. I bet your winamp exe is infected. When i ran my scanner i found about a dozzen other exe files infected. You cant fix infected exe files, have to delete them.

Rosco:
Thanks; is there ANY way to fix/excorcise this virus without buying the Symantec software? I've read the link you provided and they offer no solution, only an explanation of what this virus does.
Currently searching elsewhere for a description of how to fix this beast, but haven't found one yet.
I'm gonna be in "condition red" if I can't fix this and get airborne again...all help appreciated!!!

You can download a demo of norton, that should fix it for you. Other than that I dont know

MaxQ, you probably got an infected MP3 file. I've seen this firsthand a couple times now. The virus you have is w32.hybris.gen .
