Been bass fishing this spring and summer alot due to a shoulder injury that won't allow me to play golf for sometime. I've fished all my life but never much with lures. Mostly minnows or some kind of bait and a bobber or bottom fishing. This year tho I been learning lures and using artificials almost exclusivley. I'm in the process of buying a boat to fish but until then I have to fish where I can. Small "lakes" , ponds and creeks around where I live.
Caught this one Friday Morning about 7:30 on a top water frog. 6lbs 8ozs. It's the biggest large mouth I've caught. I caught it on an ultralight spinning reel and rod with 6lb test line. Man it was fun.

NICE HAWG SIR!!! That ones a winner in every sence of the word WTG
I bet the ultralight gear made getting that one in a blast. Is your stomach still in knots? LOL
I caught a 34" Muskie last year on ultralight gear while Crappie fishing, the thing ate a 1/8ounce jig. I know that for the 15mins that it took me to get him to the boat made my stomach twist into a knot :D
Very nice catch

Nice one, I prefer to use jigs and topwaters (oddly enough, caught a 2lb Channel Cat on one like a month ago off the San Gabriel River...oh well, that's Texas for ya) myself. I've got a picture of me holding about a 3lb black bass caught on a white roadrunner from about a month ago somewhere lyin' around.
Another favorite is (whenever you get a boat) hit up a man made lake and go trolling with bomber baits. (Hook 'em up to your pole and release 'em out the back of the boat and cruise almost in idle on the main engine) But our boat is extremely good for that since it's a lil ol 40HP 18 foot Bass Tracker. Whenever you do that, you can catch a variety of things, and sometimes, you can even see what you caught cause you'll see 'em skimmin across the lake water skiing after you hook 'em.

Nice fish Red. :aok
They rarely get that big up my way and it's more smallmouth than largemouth but I really enjoy catching them on a flyrod.
If they wont take a mouse or popper I use a woolybugger,it's a leech imitation, you ought to try a flyrod and deerhair mouse, bet you'd have a fun day!
:salute

I haven't been bass fishing in quite a few years. A frog was always my best producing top water lure in the area I lived in, fishing flooded quarries.
Nice catch!
