Title: Memorial Flights - Wish
Post by: Chalenge on June 02, 2010, 04:29:23 PM
I wish HTC could aid in the memorial flights be including a 'last call to action' of the missing community member on a 'all-country' VOX. It seems Hitech has the perfect voice for it but it is also understandable that making that call can take a toll on anyone over years of losing members so perhaps a pre-recorded transmission from squad members along strict lines. Two 'calls to action' and a 'last call for MEMBER' are what I would suggest.

With respect to our fallen.  :salute

I like the idea a great deal..........

...But it may also be mistreated unless there was a way to make sure it wasn't.  (ie.  CM only)

They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning
We will remember them.
lest we forget

No offence but, it's a game.  An escape.  I'd rather keep real life out of it.

Real life sometimes intrudes on the game with you wanting it to or not. This would be one of those times.

I would love this to happen, I would also like to have a minute silence on all radio channels.

I have never met you, don't know where you live or your real name but I'll tell you this wrongway....  If you dropped dead yesterday, I would want to have a moment with other AH'ers to show you some respect.

Keeping real life out of it means playing offline against AI. AH may be a make-believe world, but last I checked, I'm still playing AH against other humans. I don't have to see their faces to know that. When any of us die, my respects are paid.

I used to fly with the 708th rolling thunder, BGfox had a massive heart attack 2 years ago and passes away three days later. I had never met him in real life, but i had flown with him online for 2 years and I was very very upset. You cannot say that the game and RL arent intertwined

I think there is something much cooler about a memorial flight in the MA verse a SEA.  Even those of us who don't care about score probably see the MA as a larger level of significance.  The perks count, the deaths count, how cool was it to see a 262 flying formation with enemy aircraft!?

IF you're going to do it in the MA, you have to accept it for what it is.  Although I think it's very disrespectful and more than likely just immaturity, I don't think HTC should change the rules for memorial flights in the MA, that kind of takes away from the point.  I certainly don't want to effect those players who just choose not to participate, I have no negative feelings towards them and do not want to force them to follow different rules because of a memorial flight.

Back to the OP, I don't think knowledge of the memorial flight was the issue, and I don't think HTC should be required to go out of their way for these things, unless they choose to.  I think VEGA's flight went pretty well, especially for the fact that hundreds of people participated.

Jayhawk... it was not my intention to wish for this so that any rules would be in place or change or whatever.

This is just another way to memorialize the moment for squadmates and family of the member in question. Think of the bombers lined up on the runway during the memorial. All members are called to silence and the radio message goes out on all countries channel (only available to HTC obviously).

"At this time the DHBG calls Vega to lead the squadron into action." (repeated once after a short pause)

"This is the last call for Vega. DHBG instructs Vega to not respond further but to follow fair winds forever."

Chalenge, yeah, my post got a little off-topic.  Most of what I was saying was referencing some of the suggestions people made in other threads and during the actual mission.  I think I misunderstood your OP and starting thinking about all those suggestions.

I like your idea, as long as it's used sparingly (like these memorial missions as you are proposing) and isn't abused.
