Currently, the hit sprites being used are for HE rounds from a 30/37mm cannon, when they fire AP rounds (so I am told). If that is so, then they should have the same hit sprites as we do for the AP rounds from tanks.

You forgot the :furious :furious

What is the difference between an AP and HE hit sprite as I've never noticed one.

I just upped a M4(75) offline to make sure. Fired AP & HE against the T-34's threads to get both hit sprites.
They both were the same.
-
Pretty sure the Hurricane's 40mms are HE, the IL-2's 37mm should be AP though.
-

You'd be wrong.

Absolutely wrong. HurriD is a tankbuster firing AP ammunition. HE would not make Tigers simply blow up.
-
I stand corrected, always thought it fired HE shells.
-
No difference between hit sprites in a tank lusche, but if any of you have killed a panzer or T-34 with an osti, you will probably have noticed that the shell hits look identicle (yellow-orange flash followed by a little swirl of smoke).
Since the Il-2/Hurri IID do use AP rounds, they should have the same hit sprite as is used with tanks.
And lusche, I believe the reason they don't use the 30/37mm HE round hit sprite with tanks because it would look strange (not saying thats what it is, but thats just my bet). But the M8's HE rounds should look like that as well.
If you want to see what I'm talking about, go into offline mode, up an osti, and fire at the left side driver's compartment of the T-34, or just start hammering away at either of the tank's tracks.

I can't believe we're worried about the size of white pixel groups on the screen.................
:lol

Hmm...my hit sprites aren't showing up at all...
Oh wait, I wasn't hitting it. Damn I suck :(

Lol spikes, I've seen you shoot down a 262 with your Ar234. Hard to believe that you would miss a stationary target less than 100yds away from you.
And I know LLogann, its not a big deal. But my mind is just like "thats not right. That should look like the hitsprites for a tank. Why does that look like the hitsprites for an osti? HTC should fix that, if it confused the crap out of me, then I'm sure it will do the same for some other guy". I'm just fixated on it, I can't help it, and its pissing me off :noid.

it depends on the range. I think it's a graphics thing. outside of about 600 yds I do not get the orange puff.. just a white sprite.
so it seems it's just a generic close range hit animation for guns >20mm that has nothing to do with he/ap.. why you got such a big thing with it?
-
why you got such a big thing with it?
OCD?

I was unaware that you didn't get the orange puff outside D600 (probably because I can't HIT anything outside D600).
And is it really a bad thing to ask for a small fix? I see no problem with it, as it would just require swaping out some graphics.
-
It isn't broken, why waste time fixing it?
It is the way it is, get over it.

What i love is how that most suggestions of change are almost imediatly shot down regardless of what changes are being suggested.
-
dont worry nem, only 1 person's opinion actually counts, hitech's :)
-
yup, if he says we get an A10, we get an A10. If he says we get a BT-5, we get a BT-5, regardless of weather or not its a good use of resources.
I just suggested it because all it would require is swaping out some graphics (we have everything we need modled and coaded)

You realize everything .50 cal and under, 12.7mm, .303 in, 7.7mm, is essentially "AP" in that it is a solid shot with no "exploding" component.
The only over .50 cal rounds that are AP are the Hurricane 2D's 40mm, the IL-2's 23mm and 37mm and whatever you choose as AP in gv's.
What i love is how that most suggestions of change are almost immediately shot down regardless of what changes are being suggested.
I think basically what no one has said yet is: What difference does it make?
A hit sprite is a hit sprite.
I think your hands are dirty. Better go wash them, over and over and over.
wrongway
-
I do realize that wrong way.
And yes, a hitsprite is a hitsprite, but the ones for the Il-2 and Hurri IID CAN be a bit confusing to new players and players that don't much fly the Il-2 (as I proved with this thread :D). I still fail to see ANY problem with asking to change the hitsprites for the Il-2 and Hurri IID to a different type THAT WE ALREADY HAVE.
-
If anyone can read, then they will know that the big guns are big, and that they will do more damage. Hit sprites are just graphical indications of rounds hitting an object. If anyone sees their hit sprites, they should know that they hit their target. Simple as that. Making them bigger, or different, wont do anything.
-
Hit sprites are there to tell your brain "you got it right, we hit him" Over time if you work at it you can teach that brain.
So your gunnery percentage goes up.
That is it, asking for something to change, to become something it isn't, when its doing its job correctly.
Well that is beyond childish, your clear into village idiot territory.
Continuing to ask for it to change after you've been shown the error of your ways.
That is Frankenstein "get a new brain" territory. Your not using the one you have correctly.

Whoever is telling you this stuff, is just as gullible as yourself. There is only one hit sprite. So, whoever you've passed this onto, you now need to inform them of the single hit sprite.
-
Currently, the hit sprites for Il-2/Hurri IID are the same as used for the osti when firing at the back of a panzer (orange flash and swirl of smoke). Since the osti uses HE, that would indicate that those are hitsprites for HE rounds, as they are the same regardless of range, where as (according to kvuo75) the Il-2/Hurri IID only gives an orange flash at under 600yds. You NEVER get an orange flash and a swirl of smoke when using AP rounds with a tank or M8.
The only way I could see an orange flash and swirl of smoke resulting from an AP round is if it had some HE component to it (i will admit that I don't know if the Il-2/Hurri IID does or not). But if they don't, I would like to remove the hitsprite that is consistent with HE rounds and swap it out with that used on anything of 20mm caliber and under. Seeing as it would require no new components, it seems it would be a 20-30 min project at most, since the coading for both already exists in the game.
So if there is no HE component to the rounds, the hitsprites ARE incorrect, and (IMO) should be changed.

btw. the ostwind wont show the orange puff outside of a certain range either.. only very close do you see the orange puff.. at distance, its the white sprite.

Shhh. He thinks they're different sprites. Same sprite, just a different color.

strange, I still see the orange flash at 1000yds. Either way, is there anything WRONG with asking for something to be changed? Honestly, I think it will be a 15min fix seeing as would use what we already have.
