Tannerite is a commercially available (legal in all 50 states) mixture of compounds that when contained, and then struck by a high-velocity rifle round, sets off a binary chain reaction producing a localized and rapidly expanding gas/pressure envelope.... aka explosion/boom...

Just curious...

Tons of fun and a truly "reactive target"...

Post by: captain1ma on June 03, 2010, 06:21:54 AM: i buy about 120 pounds a year. we have what i call a boomer shoot. we stuff them in stuffed animals or pumpkins and shoot them. its fun to watch them explode. the largest ive ever set off was 3.5 lbs. it set off every car alarm within a mile of the gun club.

I saw it for the first time recently during a trip to the range. A guy set it up at 200 yards, and was shooting it with his scoped M4 type rifle. It took him several attempts, which was making me want to try to hit with my Mosin 91/30. But after about 6 rounds he nailed it and it was a brilliant flash and super boom.

Great fun.
