Killer shot victims at point blank range Ashley Gastor told ITV News she felt the gunshot brush past her hair and miss her, before running to her sister's for safety.
She said: "I thought he was just going to ask me for directions or something. He said something to me and I didn't hear him so I said 'What did you say?' and I turned around and he said 'Do you like...' and I couldn't hear what else he said and when I turned round to look at him he was holding a gun at me out of the car window.
"I held my ears and ducked down to protect myself and the gunshot was fired. I tried to run down the hill and he fired another one, and when I'd run down the corner he went off in the car."
She added: "I felt it go past my ponytail on the back of my hair when I bent down. I was terrified but I was happy at the same time that he'd missed me.

Absolutely - he even pasted the text of the links. Save us from Telegraph readers.
The British news has been all over this story for the last couple of days. The BBC's Have Your Say is a fairly good indicator of public opinion.

The vast majority are up in arms (if you excuse the pun,) with only the occasional rational comment. Few bother to consider that he could have killed 12 people with his taxi with only a little more difficulty. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that more people are intentionally injured or killed by vehicles than by firearms in our green and pleasant land.
We can probably expect more knee-jerk legislation relating to shotgun and firearms cerificates.

Probably not feasible, but I like this one from that BBC page:

Our gun laws are strict enough, in one regard they could be improved, all licence holders should be compelled to undergo annual pyschological tests and assessment by suitably qualified medical persons, at the licence holders cost, to verify their being mentally and emotionally suitable to possess a firearm. Such a system would need to be rigorously enforced but even so there will still be the odd but hopefully rare event involving the misuse of a firearm by somebody in a mentally or emotionally unfit state but the risk should be small enough.

Perhaps, some day, Britain will come to understand that you cannot legislate crazy. Bird could have easily killed as many with his taxi.....
