An FYI for anyone who might want to give it another try.
The new version has updated graphics (no, not super updated but a bit better), new terrain system (tank battles are incredible now), ragdoll animations and an improved CAS bombing effects (more effective now) amongst the many changes.
It is not 100% bug free yet there are some minor glitches (some places have trees hovering 10ft off the ground) but none are game breaking that we've seen.
-
OMG, they still haven't released this new update yet?
-
Ive been playing it sense 2001, been playing the beta along with tons of other people and cant wait for the update, the game has come along way from its conception, with the new ragdoll physics, the rain and lightning ( which looked great flying in) and other improvements the game looks to be like its going to be fun to play more after the update, i'll will be looking forward to the it :aok

Big question is how is the visability when flying? A few years ago they nerfed the air war by drastically reducing visability to the point of flying in a fish bowl. I remember being up at 10k feet and could only see the ground if I looked straight down and no horizon at all.
-
downloading it right now, i like how they tied the new version, with the Anniversary of D-Day, they did that when they first released the game, its a whole new war now
-
Its been 4 years since I tried it last....lets see what they have now...
-
I take it the flight model is still a piece of toejam?
ack-ack

FM and graphics. It seems this game never made any progress in past 4 years. Also their server has been offline for past 6 hours.

Uhm...lemme take a crack at it...
Could it be because it is June 6, the 66th anniversary of D-Day, one of the most significant days of WW2, and the WW2 based game is offline for 6 hours?
Is that it?

Because when the game originally launched on June 6, 2001, the servers were also down for 6+ hours (more like a few days).

IIRC they blamed it on a faulty switch

i would think there servers were down to load the new game,

When they went to that brigade system where other players dictate what I can do ingame I had enough. I had played 3 yrs in there long ago and achieved high rank, and when they changed it everyone was demoted accept a few fanboys.
-
Might try it out again just for grins and giggles. I had fun in the ground war stuff in the early beta test stuff. LJK (old squadron I was in) seriously considered bailing wholesale for the game until they screwed up the air stuff so bad that we couldn't fly ANYTHING without the old helicopter spins.
-
OK plane gurus why in the devil do the French in this game have access to the P-39 and the P-38? Neither one was ever delivered to the French forces until AFTER they left the Germans in North Africa...WTF!!!!
:huh
-
its a game where france did not fall and they were already scheduled to receive P-38's by 1940. P-322's actually but crs just modelled the 38F.
badly I must say.. the air war in that game is a joke but thankfully its not what the game is good at. Ground war is where its at. air just provides bombing support :)
-
Just got done playing, as Tac said its about the ground game, the new grafics and modeling looks very very good, there ground game is why i play it, sure ill fly now and then but with the new capping system, Infantry effects , ground detail, fun game to play for the ground war
-
Well I am going to give the ground side a look over the next few days/hours and see what I can see. I may let my oldest son subscribe to it so he can get some ground stuff going.

Is it possible to have a forum rule which clearly state that request for copies of copyrighted material is also reason for ban?
Also, you can't call people who infringe (violate) copyright a thief (way more serious than people here calling each other names). This is libel and you open yourself for a lawsuit...
interference with copyright does not easily equate with theft, conversion, or fraud. The Copyright Act even employs a separate term of art to define one who misappropriates a copyright: ... 'an infringer of the copyright.' ...
The infringer invades a statutorily defined province guaranteed to the copyright holder alone. But he does not assume physical control over the copyright; nor does he wholly deprive its owner of its use. While one may colloquially link infringement with some general notion of wrongful appropriation, infringement plainly implicates a more complex set of property interests than does run-of-the-mill theft, conversion, or fraud.
—Dowling v. United States, 473 U.S. 207, pp. 217–218
libel (for written, broadcast, or otherwise published words)—is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government, or nation a negative image. It is usually, but not always, a requirement that this claim be false and that the publication is communicated to someone other than the person defamed.

Holy banstick Batman! Word to the wise, do not even talk about torrents here, much less post links or provide others to.
Kam, you can figure it out now I'm sure. ;)

I also believe the version of the Lightning they have wasn't the gelded export model that was being delivered to the Brits and French but rather the F model.

P-322's actually but crs just modelled the 38F.
Which still would be incorrect as the export gelded P-38 that the French would have recieved were far different than the USAAF Lightnings.

Anything wrong with torrents we should be aware of?

Why should we have forum posting rules to cover illegal activities?
2bighorn, no one called anyone a thief. I went ahead and changed the verb.
Now, drop it.

That is what I was thinking Ack-Ack. It is nuts that you get to use equipment that wasn't even available during that time frame. I really wish they had been successful in breaking out into the other theaters that they wanted to do for a GLOBAL theater system. Too bad that they haven't gotten there yet.

What happened, did your babel fish break? I want to hear the end of your thought.
I have my own about that infernal piece of work, but we'll leave that be, for now.

Ops. I decided to not post anything since it wasn't nice...but I guess fatigue got the best of me.

I subscribed with 6 years old account. Tried to play. And unsubscribed.
Frankly this game hasn't changed. Progress froze long time ago and only received light sprinkle of updates once every blood moon. Soldier models are same as 5 years ago. Heck, just about all of game models are exactly same as when I left. Same goes for problems. Invisible friendlies? Yep, they are still there. Horrible flight model. Yep. Still there. Map? Same map, but now with magical vehicles from 1944+. Battle of France with Germans running around in Tigers and French flying P-38s. Really?
I don't know what magical cow developers found, but they have been milking it for a long time... So let this be a public announcement. Stay away from WW2OL or what ever the heck they call that junk now days.
-
Infantry models are next up for re-do next version. They did make serious changes to infantry gameplay and dynamics this patch.
Invisible friendlies in mini-map is a small bug on the new release, it is being fixed.
the game is a ground sim, dont seek a ww2 air sim there it IS garbage. Thats what you have AH for :)
I'm enjoying the game a lot more now. The new terrain is real nifty for ground battles and the new infantry play system does build intense infantry battles in towns and outside them.
