Title: Top Shot - Anyone else watch it?
Post by: Jayhawk on June 06, 2010, 10:13:10 PM
Just finished the first episode of "Top Shot" on the History Channel, pretty disappointed.  I was really looking forward to the show, I figured it'd be a lot of shooting and a lot of cool guns.  It was just History Channel's attempt at a reality show.  Too much fake drama, not enough shooting!

Exactly the way I felt about it. I won't waste another hour watching it, that's for sure.

Man I felt bad for that guy, although I did laugh when his pistol shot at the elimination barely made it onto the target.  I was glad to see the young guy prove himself, at least with the long-range rifle; he had a target on his back the minute he walked in there, maybe that will take a little pressure off him.

History Channel needs to go back to showing actual HISTORY programming again and drop the frelling reality and pseudo-science garbage they air instead. Although Pawn Stars OCCASIONALLY has something of historical significance pop up (the Civil War or whatever cannon was pretty cool).

I agree. Although I love Pawn Stars and American Pickers, I'd like to see more History shows. The Dogfights Series was the best they've ever had, imo. I may be a bit biased, though.

Another miss(hehe) for me in tonight's episode.  I gave it another shot (hehe) because of my pistol enthusiasm.  Can the show only afford a single used 92F for the episode!?

I would have liked to have seen this show do a simple points system, no one gets eliminated, just a staggered points system where highest total at the end wins.  They could throw in the trash talking and fake drama in between all that.

That zip line was pretty sweet though.  :O Looked very challenging.

I could only be more disappointed if my child committed a heinous crime.

I do like Pawn Stars.  American pickers is OK too, but it's not as much my style.  These shows delve into the history of all the "artifacts" they examine, and it's an important corner of the study of history.  I like how there's funny antics in Pawn Stars, but they don't let it become the show.  It keeps it's focus well.  I think of it as more history than reality show.

I assume they stopped dogfights because of cost, and because they wanted to use their airtime for all this cheaper drivel.  I loved that show so much.  I watched it in Iraq too, the whole thing.  There were times, especially in the second season, when I forgot that it was animation.  Truly a new standard in CGI.  Also a new standard in the presentation of history.  Before this, how else could one experience a dogfight besides playing games like we do?  It's hard to get the feeling from books unless you've been there.

Only reality type show I like watching is Pawn Stars and American Pickers, and really just for the reason that you sometimes see some cool stuff and learn something along the way. I miss stuff like Tales of the Gun, and all that other good stuff from the History Channel when it first started (Modern Marvels is a favorite of mine too, really interesting)

Not surprising for History channel to pull off yet another disappointing show.  I was looking forward to it too.

No tornado.  We had a storm early in the morning and about around 9 tonight. A total of 1.5 inch for the day.  I do not think the wheat harvest will be good this year.  What kind of tomato are you growing?

I think I just put in globe tomatoes, first year trying and they've had some rough days so far.

Just watched the episode tonight - what a load of crap!  They had an ex-marine (IIRC, Mike) that couldn't hit his target at 50 yards with a 1903 Springfield!  A Marine that can't hit a target at 50 yards with a rifle?!  You gotta be kidding me!  And these guys were supposed to be "top  shooters"?!?!

All these new reality shows are, IMHO, scripted, and rather boring. They do occasionaly come across a very interesting object, but normaly go over cheap americana. For example, I watched an episode of Pawn Stars tonight, and a man brought in a Spanish gold coin. This coin was valued at over 18 thousand dollars, and could have had much more elaborated about its history, but recieved a whopping 5-8 minutes (max.) of the show's airtime. Most of the shows time was taken up by a high torque motorbike from less than 40 years ago.

Atleast its better than Ice-Swamp-Crab-Logger.
