OK maybe another naďve or even stupid question so please be polite :noid. I accidentally found a “typical” WWII gun cam in tube. It is not something special but while I was watching it I notice that these guys had a much more hard time shooting down an enemy plane (bomber at @ 001 or even a fighter @ 6:15) despite how easy it may looks in AH. For eg in game for a fighter to knock down a bomber (specially a Ju 88 or a Ki67) would not be much of a trouble. Few 2 or 3 sec bursts and the bomber is history. But like this one –plus in many more- WWII era guncam videos this task looks like mush more difficult. Anyway my question goes like this: is AH planes more “fragile” than it should be? is DM in AH more “generous” to enemy fire so not to discourage new players of shooting down an enemy plane ? I know what they say about the “other” game that planes looks like tanks, but is there any possibility that we are kinda “wrong” and they are kinda “right”?
PS though I’ve searched thoroughly in most WWII videos never saw a bomber explode in the air like in AH. I know that an explanation is that happens when the pilot killed but still never saw any bomber explode.

One thing that should be taken into account when looking at those vids: They are slow motion. German guncam films show action at about 1/3rd speed. If you play an "average" AH player's guncam video at 1/3rd, it will look more similar.

A lot of it has to do with skill. We never die for real so we get to improve with every flight.
Lots of us have been practicing shooting down bombers for many, many years.
The real pilots (with their real lives at stake) didn't have this luxury. The aces that were successful in real life and were lucky enough to survive the two to three year bomber offensive were very rare.

I would also add that in real life, everyone involved was fighting for their life. Because of that, they were more careful in how they flew and fought as to minimize their risk. So, it would take more effort to shoot down a bomber.
And I believe you touched on the point that this is a game and it's more fun for people to be able to shoot down a plane (except for the one being shot down). The damage model in the WWII arena is a bit simple; no less than any other game of the genre and certainly better than some. The WWI arena is a testbed for the new damage model that you pointed out as being very much better. I believe I read that HTC will be implementing this new damage model for the WWII arenas over time as they shake out bugs and update the data for the WWII planes.

Remember, this is a game and we are not hotshot combat pilots. I know this hurts alot of people and many of you will turn away in the terrifiying self realization.........but the truth is that if HTC made the game to be as difficult as air combat was in R/L (as clearly evidenced by your analysis of R/L combat film) no one would play. The entire experience would be too frustrating.
