Looking for a laptop that is under $500. Anyone have any recommends?
-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114789 (not necessarily great, it's just Egg's laptop deal of the week).
Newegg has a great laptop sale weekly.
Silat,
consider getting a netbook? Or do you want full sized screen?
-
It is for someone else. Do notebooks do everything a laptop does?
-
A "netbook" won't do everything, but it should do most things.
Typically they cut on things like DVD drives. You could of course if you had a netbook get an external dvd drive.
I have a friend who has one, uses it for light duty, surfing the web, looking at pictures of old cars, etc.
He's been pretty happy with his.
But it does come down to what you expect for your money.

Ghosth pretty much covered it. It's great and very portable for surfing the web, email, listening to music, movies, etc. However if said person uses heavier applications such as Photoshop (PS will run on Netbooks I think), Vegas (for movie rendering) etc, you'll want to lean more towards a normal laptop. What will his uses be?

She needs the burning capability.
Spreadsheets, emails.
Good wireless capability.
Is it wrong to go with the Dell :) deal of the day such as:
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dndozm2&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
She likes the idea of the Dell service with extra's such as "if you drop it" they replace it.
-
That's not bad. I would debate adding the video card. but since she won't be playing games, it's really not needed. That's the same laptop my father has for his work. He likes it.

I heard this one (http://www.wimp.com/notebookcomputer/) is pretty good... it's cheap too

OK she got a Dell. She wanted the tech support and extra insurance Dell offers. :pray
I convinced her to buy at the Dell Outlet. So she got the one she wanted at about 20% off retail deal of the day.
