Mission: Sightseeing over EYJAFJALLAJÖKULL, the volcano with the unspeakable name which has been giving the world of aviation a load of trouble.
Vessel: Cessna 172
Crew: Pilot born in 1940, Father-in-law born in 1939, and a german gardener born in 1935, then my humble self with my RAF jacket and dirty clothes.
Flight plan: Fly over the crater and peek inside (alt is some 5K), then slalom down a ravine from where the lava has cut itself through the thick glacial cap.
Results: Mission completed. Had a good peek into the corridor of hell. Both before and after the flight, there were emissions from the crater, but not when I was there. There was no smell of sulphuric gases this time. The view was awesome and I doubt I will ever forget our circling around the crater. I am not sure how deep we were actually.
And....I did not even bother to bring a camera. This will give an idea of the place I was IN yesterday though:

A guy was returning to his flat after some pubcrawling. In a dark hallway he was halted by a Sulphur-smelling, red, horned, hoofed, fork-tailed (like a p-38 :devil), big and evil being.
Satan: "Do you know who I am?"
Pubcrawler : "No"
Satan: "I am Satan, also known as Lucifer, or you can call me the devil"
Pubcrawler: "Nice meeting you. I am married to your sister"
hehe :neener:
