Title: Squelch Notification
Post by: ttflier on June 13, 2010, 09:51:09 AM
Now that we are in the season of squelch, may I suggest a slight change that may help to passively influence some of our younger members (and maybe some not so young) to change their sometimes unacceptable arena behavior. When being squelched, the squelchee would receive a system message "You have been squelched" or "You have been squelched, AGAIN".  Certainly some folks would take that kind of reinforcement onboard and perhaps try to find out why they were squelched, hopefully resulting in an attempt to modify their behavior into an acceptable mode.   For those that have no hope, this will turn into a badge of (shameful) honor - win/win for everyone.  Unfortunately, this will not help to change the unbearable vox decibel levels that are a result of the summer season (maybe a voice masking option - but I will leave that for another post :D).

:lol im all for this. it seems like a good idea +1 :aok

and note to the anti-squeeks and members of squeek-kind, you can lower mic volume to allow your voice to be broadcast at better levels to others ears :aok my new squaddie ACP has actually done this. After taking him in i found that once i didnt squelch him anymore, he was a great kid and loved flying and loved LEARNING about the game and WWII history...

In my suggestion it would be:

SYSTEM: Snailman has been squelched, AGAIN

After the first instance  :x

Just a clarification  :D

Can of worms wish.

Sometimes I squelch random people on range just because their mics are too loud.

then they would get to figure out why they were squelched and lower the volume. and this isn't going to show WHO squelched them. only that they had been squelched.

P.S. you can tell them to lower the volume sometimes

Some might get offended that someone squelched them, look on range to see who it might have been, and then whine.  I'm just saying.  It's better to not know if someone squelched you.  That's why people feel the need to publicly let somebody know they are being squelched.  No one likes being squelched.  :)

What about a non-judgemental "squelch" command and also a with-extreme-prejudice "stfu" command?   ;)

Hehe, how about a: "Excuse me sir, your mic is too loud and as result, an anonymous bloke has squelched you.  Please do not take offense kind sir, as it is nothing personal."

this will create a environment where people squelch others just to harrass them.

I know exactly what you mean, but I always tell them either in text or vox. We all know your 1337 uber skillz rarely need a check 6 but, if you squelch someone just because of a loud mic, you may not get that one crucial check 6 that could save your 50 kill streak.

When you squelch someone, a drop-down with category could come up:

vox volume level too high...
'have-you-EVER-had-a-thought-you-haven't-spoken-aloud?'
armchair general...
Triple5 wannabe...
oDallaso wannabe....
annoying squeaker....
'not-another-ho-argument'......
'not-another-190-is-under-modeled argument'...

the possibilities are endless :)

I squelch Grizz the moment I login.  :lol
Seriously, I agree with him. I squelch only when I need to. This would just serve to agitate more than teach.

Squelching someone is by itself an neutral act, designed to deflate tempers to continue to make the game fun.

I'm not in favor of this, it will only escalate tempers.

In warbirds there was a text file that ran every time you went on the runway. You could put dot commands in it and they would all execute in order.

It was a pretty nice way to make it easy to take care of the various admin tasks associated with takeoff.

One of the things in my .fly file was my personal permanent squelch list (This was text squelch...no game voice over there)

In WB the player was notified every time he was squelched and who did it.

It really annoyed the folks on my list that I did it every time I took off.

It was something that was fun to abuse and therefore should not be in game  :devil

Maybe three squelches in a row and... nope that would be abused too. Why not leave it alone?

INfidelz.

Have to agree with this.
