Title: Microsoft Xbox360 announcements
Post by: Reschke on June 14, 2010, 12:41:37 PM
M$ and Activision just announced @ E3 that all Call of Duty games and map packs in the next three years would appear on the XBOX360 FIRST! That takes those away from us PC guys which have traditionally been first.

Watching it live here:

Also checking other stuff at this link as well:

Of course, they're making more from the online gold subscriptions than they do off us computer people. It's all about the benjamins.

Why the surprise? PC gaming has been in decline for several years now.  Many games are developed for consoles and then ported to the PC.

It's just a ploy by Activision to help shore of a flagging franchise on the decline, especially after the creators of CoD jumped ship.  Microsoft is looking for ways to try and keep the console market share in the US and Europe, especially with their new "slim" 360 and "Kinect" controller coming out this year.  Microsoft has lost a lot of ground to PS3 these last couple of years.

One thing that also hurt them was when HD DVD lost to Blu-ray.

I just watched the "Kinect" coming out demo and it was pretty cool what they did but of course I doubt it works as well as they want it to.

They also just showed that ESPN would begin streaming live content over the XBOX360 for over 3500 event both live and VOD. The big key thing with this is if you are an Xbox Live subscriber they are offering that ESPN service for no additional cost.

Kinect launches on Nov 4th this year.

Microsoft and Lucasarts are going to put out a game in 2011 that has no controllers at all and uses the Kinect platform.

Forza using the Kinect looks pretty slick also.

New xbox has a 250GB HDD with built in wifi n standard and prices are staying at the current rate. Are shipping to retailers TODAY and available for sale by the end of this week! It looks slick! Has an HDMI port on the back now and when Kinect comes out you don't need a power cable with the new xbox but the existing ones you will need a power pack to make Kinect work.

What game?

No name on the game yet but they showed a trailer and it looked kinda funky in the graphics department. Co-developed between MS Game Studios (Terminal Development Games) and Lucasarts.

I had passed on going to the MS press show because I'm going to be at E3 on Thursday and if anything interesting is announced, my co-workers that went would fill me in.  Found out today that everyone that went got a slim 360 from MS.

I wouldn't think any self-respecting pc gamer would care about the xbox getting priority over a bunch of overrated games and overpriced map packs.

But I guess I'm in the minority nowadays. I just didn't think quality, innovation, and dedication were too much to ask. But gyrene is right, its all about the benjamins. And boy do those sheeple dish 'em out.

Yep but the upside is they just got them for free...you can buy one this weekend. My oldest has $400 burning a hole in his savings account right now and is torn between a PS3 and the new Xbox. He only plays sports games on his consoles and the first Xbox I got 8-9 years ago finally died about 8 months ago.

Make sure he compares them both as far as online playing, i know with my PS3 i don't have to pay a subscription fee to play on line, but my son does with his XBox live, PS3 has a very nice Bluray player and i don't know if the new Xbox does, PS3 has wireless or Lan connections, again I'm unsure with the Xbox, tell your son goodluck on his decision

Don't know about the Blueray in the new Xbox but it does have wireless built into the thing this time around.

Can't you say something else about it? We or at least I got it the first time you ever wrote that or whoever wrote that in the other Xbox thread...http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,290983.0.html

For sports games (football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse even...which is only available on Xbox Live) are what my teenage son and his friends like. For other games he plays on the PC because....

GAME CONSOLES SUCK....REAL MEN USE A PC FOR GAMING!

If he primarily plays consoles for the sports games and likes to play online then the 360 is probably the better choice.

Is your reasoning on that Ack-Ack just because of more titles being available on that platform than the PS3? I am honestly kinda leaning toward the PS3 because of the BD player and the ability of him and his little brother to access content using their PSP's over the PSN. Plus PSN doesn't require a monthly payment like Xbox Live does to allow him to play against his friends.

I heard that PS3 is going to start a payment thing. Apparently, when you pay for however long, any DLC you get will be free as long as you're paying, but you have to still be paying in order to use it. Sounds like a load-a crap, but it might be true.

Xbox live gold membership is a yearly thing, not monthly, as far as I know. I paid GBP35 or so for a year, well worth it imo. And as for which your son should buy, I would suggest an Xbox because the controller is way better suited to sports games than the PS3. Much more sensitive-to-the-touch-triggers and smoother joysticks, in my experience. Not to mention that, IMO, Xbox live is a far superiour platform than PSN.  Another thing to consider is the resolution of the two consoles. As far as I know the PS3 is limited to a max of 780p where as the Xbox delivers a full HD 1080p.

Right now I pay for things like this but ONLY as a reward type thing. He is 13 and is starting to work more and more for money but I want him to be self sufficient on the big purchases in the next couple of years...like car, insurance, fuel, date money, etc...

If XBL is under a $100 a year then no big deal for me to fork it out but for him that $100 could go a long way towards a car payment or other aspect of ownership.

If he is going to primarily play sport games online then the 360 is the better choice because Xbox LIVE! is by far the better online matchmaker than PS3's PSN and more players online.

The PS3 is full supportive of full HD 1080p and 7.1 surround sound. The Xbox is not superior.

I don't care what anybody says i've played both 360 and PS and I have to admit PS3is way better. You don't have to pay for online either lol.

Im not in to the console war very much, but when people choose the PS3 for the fact that it costs nothing to play online is pretty bunk.

In my experience Microsoft's Xbox LIVE, is way better than PSN. Its well worth the 50$ a year. When you pay for something it's obviously going to be better.

And how long have you lived out here in So Cal?  Never ever ever turn down free(-ish) access to an E3 event!  *nerd-slap*

And I've been meaning to catch ya on the forums recently Ack-Ack.  Since my internet has been out at my house for about the past week I rented FFXIII, been lovin' it, pass along my appreciation if ya can (I'm probabley gonna buy it, so it'd be one of 8-10 XBox games I've felt worthy of paying full price for, let me know if you folks got any limited release versions available or something similar).

Will be 40 years this coming August  :D

Reason why I passed on the MS press event is that they're usually very, very boring and the only reason to go is for the laugh factor when one of the MS products get the BSOD on stage and they've never given out stuff this cool before.  Live and learn and you can bet I won't skip out of next years.

Will do, the senior guys from the FFXIII development team are in town this week for E3 and when I meet up with them tomorrow at E3 I will pass it along.  The only limited or special editions were the ones that came bundled with the special edition FFXIII skinned Xbox 360s.

In your shoes, I'd be one of the loud guys booing them at every presentation I could make until they finally give me a free console too.   :devil  Just because I like their console more than the competitions right now doesn't mean I really like them... any lover of the MW, FS or other series of games thinks they're one of the devil foster-parents of the industry.

Sweet, thanks!  Yeah just an awesome product of a game and a good continuation of the series: plot, music, cinematics, rendering, difficulty scaleing, etc..  I can see why the translation took so long now, it's a frakn' 3-disk movie-game.  Understood about the limited editions, sounds like something that was orchestrated/engineered purely on M$'s end.  Score all the sweet dope ya can tomorrow though and grab any extra for me if ya can.  :D
