New Zealand has an easier path to get in.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification  Canada would have to beat out some heavyweights to make it in.

WooHooo    It probably doesn't seem like much to some...but for us it is huge..... considering guys have to take time off work to play in the world cup I think it is pretty wicked.

There aren't that many "heavyweights" in CONCACF. NZ should be in the AFC and qualify directly, but the fact they did qualify at all is a credit to them

the fantastic way theyve performed in the group stages kinda makes their "easy" qualifying a moot point wouldnt you say ...

Unfortunately for New Zealand, Italy are one of FIFA's 'chosen' teams and so you'll always find strange decisions going against you.

For example, here's the goal that sealed their qualification...

No complaints about the goal - that was bad defending - but how on earth was it ever a free-kick to Italy? Bitter? You bet. Surprised? Not really. FIFA / UEFA have a history of stacking the cards in favor of the teams that generate the most TV revenue. Just ask the Irish.

Yeah, we deserve 4 World Cup....oh yeah sorry we cheated all the 4 times   :rofl
And of course no one else , in the rest of the World, ever "fake" a fault. Pleeeeaseeeee. Now tell me you are all
The only difference, we do it right, and we win.
Maybe England should have learned a little from us ohhh wait you can blame it on the Cheating Italian Coach.  :rofl

You know, British invented soccer but unfortunately they're master of none. They still need to find a scapegoat.

Back on topic: I hope italy comes back home ASAP this time, the players dont run enough without the ball.

oh wait... I heard soccer was invented in Florence...  :noid

Here's the thing with Italy:

Brazil have won five world cups and everyone admires then for their skill and flair.

Italy have won four world cups defending 1-0 leads and diving. Effective? yes, but everyone else hates them.

I could watch English, Spanish or South American football all day - heck I'll even watch MSL. Serie A though just bores me to tears.

FWIW, I love Italy, just not their football.

By the way, well done NZ you did deserved 1 point.
Just another thought, when Italy plays the same way NZ played the second half.......just defending in her half of the field....boring, terrible, killing the game etc etc. Funny enough someone else does it ..and it is outstanding, good game etc etc.
Uhm, i guess someone is allowed to do it someone is not.

Easy to answer, we don't care if the rest of the world like or not our way of playing, actually most of Italians don't like it either, but still that's the way it is. As i say to a lot of my friends here in Danmark, i don't care how they play but i do care if they win or not. When i played football, i played to win not to entratein who came to see me. Diving...are you telling me that we are the ONLY ONE doing it? I hope not.
Last thing, you answered your self.... just don't watch it  :)

Absolutely not, but I do wonder where the other teams originally got the idea from?

As for New Zealand playing backs to walls football, there's a huge difference between playing that way because you're being pinned back by the other team and actually setting out to play that way. New Zealand were given no choice but to play that way. Italy deliberately make a strategy of it.

Come on, try to be serious. Or maybe you will tell that you were there when the first player took a dive. But that is not my point, my point is every one does it but funny enough i ALLWAYS hear only about the Italians. Could it be that is easier to point the finger allways at us?

Wrong, from the 1st minut of the second half, they just defended their goal and used the few counterattacks they had. It was clear from the way the players just runned back to their half of the field. They didn't try anything else not cause they couldn't just cause they were happy with the score as it was, same way as Italy is happy when they lead the match. But then again it was not Italy doing it so i guess it was ok.
